I accidentally dropped my SS 1-10 off a 3' bench onto concrete and dented the tube right in front of the occular. As far as I can tell, there was no mechanical damage. Is there any way I can pull this dent out?

Ouch - Probably not the first one. Call SWFA on Tuesday and ask them their recomendation for repair service.  I have no idea what it will cost you but I'm sure that part could be replaced however time and cost may not make it practical.  Let us know.

isnt that just the sun shade thats dented? doesnt seem like too big of a deal, you could try to pull it out a little and if it doesnt work id order another one, $20 not gonna kill you. your scope still looks fine and im sure still performs just as good as the day you mounted it

No, the sun shade screws into that, I think.

This damage happened before I could even get the scope mounted!

that does indeed suck, i feel for you, hopefully you can contact SWFA on Tuesday and find out a possible solution to your problem. From all users on here they have top notch Customer Service, im not familiar with that scope as i do not own one but i swear that looks like a short sun shade and who knows im probably wrong but nothing wrong with optimism in a time of need.

Is the scope body one-piece? There is a definite seam here, so it could be a sun shade.

How far does a sun shade sit in front of the objective lens? From the outside, the seam looks like it is very close to the lens.

I believe the scope body is one piece, from what i see almost if not all new scopes are constructed that way. I would not touch it or try to undo it until you speak with SWFA and know for sure what exactly that is. Its not worth risking any potential warranty. Someone on here will know. Most weekends you would already have your answer but being the holiday weekend it seems very quiet on here. Just be patient. you will get your answer in the next couple days. It sucks getting a new toy and not being able to play with it.....

That front piece also contains the objective lens, and sets the parallax for the scope. Contact SWFA, but they probably will not be open on Monday due to it being Labor Day.

Its not user repairable. An effort to straighten it will likely result in more damage and likely render the scope unuseable.  Your options would seem to be:
  1. contact SWFA and inquire about repair  with the understanding that you will incur some shipping and repair cost but get it back in like new condition the down side is the down time to get that done.  Cost + down time may not make that that ideal.
2. mount it on a 22mag or 17 HMR etc  and go play with it and it just is what it is - a scope for your truck gun  that you dont worry about getting scratched up cause its already got a ding.  Most of us have a less than perfect scope on something and so long as it works its like driving an old truck rather than a new one. The first ding is always the most painful, after that you dont worry about it you just use it.

Thanks, I will go with #1. This is a real nice optic, and I don't want to relegate it to .22 duties Big Grin

UPDATE:

I sent the scope into SWFA to see what they could do with it, and they managed to pull the dent out enough that a sun shade can be screwed on (but just barely)... it looks mostly like just a surface blemish now. All in all, the best outcome I could hope for! How do I know a sun shade can be screwed on? Because SWFA sent me a free one! And there was no charge for the repair! Thanks SWFA, that's great customer service, and I will tell other shooters about it.
