I'm bound and determined to find a 1-4x scope for a flat top AR yet.  After looking through the forums, looking at the Weaver 1-3x, the Millet DMS1, etc.  I think I've narrowed it down to these few:

Leupold 1.5-4x20 Mark AR Riflescope

Leupold VX-II 1-4x20mm Rifle Scope w/ Matte Black Finish, Duplex Reticle 56700

Nikon Series Monarch African Riflescope 1 - 4x 20 Matte German #4 Reticle, 8446

Millett 1-4 x 24 DMS, Multi Coat Red-Dot Rifle Scope BK81002

Konus Konuspro M30 1-4x24mm Zoom Riflescope D.30mm w/ Bubble Level 7284

anyone with experience with these that could give some feedback?

I'm leaning towards the Leupold (either one), only because they are local for me.  But the Nikon also looks good.

Main purpose would be for close to midrange plinking/target/varmint shooting, maybe some 3-gun, QCB or home D.  Not too worried about the latter 2, as there are more options.Wink

Any help would be appreciated.

The Millett isn't bad, and is probably as good as the Leupold for less money.

I had the Millett and have experience with it.

Another option would be the Bushnell 4200 1-4, it ain't bad.

And have you considered a red dot or is magnification needed?

thanks RC.

I do have an Eotech and an Aimpoint on my other AR's, as well as an aimpoint clone - Hakko.

This one I thought I'd try something with some variable power - something a little different.  Also a little bit cheaper, in case it gets banged around by noobie users.

I've read where a few had had probs with the Millett, fungus growing inside?  What's up with that or maybe just a bad lot?

Also the Millett weighs about twice what the others do.  Not that 18oz versus 9 oz is a big thing, but it is noticeable to some.

That was one of my first choices though.

How's the 1x on the Millett?  Is it close enough to not be a headache at QC work?

Thanks again,
Slo

The 1.5-6x42 has roughly 1 1/2 times the capacity to gather usefull low light images at 1 1/2 times the magnification of the 1-4x24 unless you have a strong need for the wider field of view or smaller profile the 42mm objective outclasses the 24mm weaker scope. Note: 1.5-6 scopes are readily available with 44mm objectives as well this would make the larger scope have 65% better low light imaging ability than the 1-4 scope.

The Millett is serviceable.  It is a $200 scope, and it performs about how you'd expect a $200 scope to perform: not stellar, not total crap.  The glass is OK, the knobs tracked well, nothing that I could see grew in mine.

I'd say it is "close" to a true 1X.

The best in class for a reasonable budget is Trijicon, hands down.  It is a bit more than the Millett but worth every penny, in my opinion.
