On Sept. 1st & 2nd I drove out to the panhandle for Doves and Pds. It was a rush. This is the second best dove shoot of my entire life per the numbers of doves. Shooting only lasted about 30 min. on both days to limit out. The doves were so thick I made my first triple ever. (3 with one shot.) Also had a double double. (2 with one shot on each barrel.) I was like a kid on his first hunt it was so exciting.

The doves were going into a pond next to one of the PD fields.

As soon as you had the limit on doves the PD shooting began. I had 1 large towne and 4 smaller townes to shoot in so the action was hot all day.

The large towne is just beyond the rise.

After just a little the were not as bold.

Then they would slowly start to peak over the tops again.

One of the Smaller fields had a lot of burrowing Owls. I counted 18 out side on the mounds at one time.

On the drive back I spotted 3 Elk.

Just my luck they were in a fenced area . It was a great trip. Maybe next year some arm's from the OT can be twisted to go and enjoy.

Another trip can be arranged. He is wanting to thin the population of PDs. One of the smaller fields near one of the water wheels will be poisoned this winter. What a waste. The shooting is much more active in the late spring than this late in the fall. The doves were so thick this year you could almost get hits with your eyes closed.

You did better than me on opening day (then again, asking me to use a shotgun is like asking Picasso to paint with a broom), my field was too big, too few hunters, I only took 7 or so.

Back at it next week in Brownwood, hoping for a slaughter, would accept a massacre.
