Clamper,

I think you'll have a great time with your AR popping dogs.  On my last trip out I tried my dad's DPMS Panther Bull Special and it shot like a dream.  It was great to be able to just focas on the dogs and not the

I started shooting dogs as practice for other hunting, now it has earned a small arsenal of guns.

What sort of info are you looking for?  I always enjoy talking about prarie dog hunting and I'm sure many others do, too.

I live in Kansas and PD's are basically all over the western half of the state.  I'm planning on going over spring break to the Cimarron National Grasslands in the corner of the state by Elkhart KS.  There is approx. 108,000 acres of gound in the grasslands,  yes I said 108,000 acres.  I would say about 75% of this has PD's on it from my experience, It goes all the way across into Colorado and I think a little into Oklahoma.  Its relatively flat and in some spots shot opportunities occur about every 30 seconds.  I have shot PD's from about 10 yds all the way past 600yds.  And I am almost embarrased to say I've taken shots out as far as 900-1000 yds.  I use a BM varminter special with a SS10x42m.  I shoot handloaded hornady 55gr v-max moly.  It really makes em fly apart when you connect.

I found a the fed website that outlines PD hunting on the cimarron grasslands, It claims only approx 5500 of the 108,000 acres has PD's on it in large amounts, I still say that num is much higher, either way thats a lot of acreage.

heres the link:

I'm going this sunday, along with about 6 other guys, weather permitting....
