Hello all. I'm new to SWFA scopes and had a question.

Do new SWFA scopes come with instructions?

I ordered an SWFA SS 1-4x24 HD and it came packaged fine in a brown cardboard outer box with some scope rings I also ordered. But inside, the white scope box had black fingerprint smudges on it. The plastic bag the scope came in looked all crumpled up like the scope had been taken out of the bag about 20 times. The internal cardboard pieces that hold the scope in place in the box were also battered like the scope had been removed repeatedly. The scope itself had fingerprints all over it and particles stuck to the rear lens. There are also no instructions. There were 2 batteries though. It seems as if this scope has been used or was on display at a store. There are no ring marks that I can find, so that's good.

I might expect this if the scope was cheap and from China. But I'm shocked the Japanese would send out a scope and packaging in this condition. Usually they only send out perfection. Does this sound right to all of you? It doesn't seem right for an $800 scope. But maybe this is normal for SWFA.

I'm wondering if I should send it back and ask for another scope that doesn't seem used.

Exactly... Maybe try giving the place you bought it from a chance to fix it, before you air out the trash. Their number is (972) 726-7348. It sounds to me like there might have been some issues while in shipping though.

k1dude, welcome to the OT.

Like ST and Billy said, you really need to contact SWFA. From past experience, if there's an issue they will make it right.  Thunbs Up

I already did first thing Saturday morning (I received it Friday evening). They're closed until Monday. That's why I posted my supposed "trash." I was looking to see if this was normal or not.

If it was normal I was going to mount it up and shoot it today. I'm glad I found out it was unusual.

If what you say is accurate then you didn't "air out the trash". It shouldn't have arrived in that condition and I'd be a little upset about it. I'm sure they'll make it right and cover your return shipping should you decide to return it for a properly packaged new unit with instructions. Good luck.

6.  The Optics Talk forum is not to be used as a customer service tool for SWFA customers.  Tracking numbers, Order Status, Credit Card issues, etc. need to be directed to our Customer Service Professionals at 972-617-7056 from 8 a.m -5 p.m CDT or via e-mail atswfa@swfa.com.
It helps to read the rules... But to answer your question, my SS dint't come with instructions. The reason I think you have had shipping issues is the fingerprints and the internal box damage.

I have no idea what has your underwear in a bundle or why the rude welcome to this forum.

I am NOT using this forum as a customer service tool. I was asking advice from those in the know if my situation was unusual since SWFA was closed for the weekend. I haven't spoken about "Tracking numbers, Order Status, or Credit Card issues.

If you think my question falls under one of those categories I think most reasonable people would disagree with you.

To the rest of you, thank you for your input.

Sorry if I offended you. The one thing about internet comms, is not being able to read the other persons body language. I was not trying to piss you off, and now I believe you were not just pissed off about the scope you received in general. But asking the general population about the condition of your scope, and insinuating its "cheapness", might just get my "panties in a bunch". Overall, I was referring to the fact that this form is not supposed to be used for matters of customer service. If you get a hold of SWFA on Monday, I am positive that they WILL handle all of your concerns.

I don't think SWFA scopes are cheap. Quite the opposite in fact. I've been so impressed with what SWFA has been doing, I ordered both the SS 1-4x24 HD AND the SH deal on the SS 5-20x50 HD! I wouldn't drop over $2,000 (including rings) on product that I thought was cheap. I spend my money far too carefully to buy junk.

I was just concerned over what I received.

Believe me, you have no idea how hard it is to not just mount it and start shooting. Now I have to wait a week or two longer. AAAAAAAA!!!

It's already driving me nuts that I have to wait for the 5-20 to hit our shores.

Welcome to The OT, k1dude!

I know without a doubt SWFA wants to hear about this and wants a chance to make you happy.

What's the 1-4x going on?

The 1-4x is going on my 3-gun AR (5.56). They just introduced a new category called "precision rifle" out to 100 yards with 2" targets where I shoot. My 4 MOA Aimpoint Micro T-1 red dot was no good for that type of shooting. So I elected to go with the SS 1-4 to cover all my bases.

The 5-20 will go on my hunting and long range rifle. It's an AR in 6.5 Grendel.

For what I get, I think SWFA is quite reasonable.I don,t know of any company that gives back the way SWFA does.Hell, that 5-20 scope is surely worth $2k & I'm sure they will sell a truck load of these scopes @ $1500.

Well, the 1-4x should serve you very well then.

I'm mounting my T1 on my SS 3-9x, that's riding my Remington .308 right now, via the Badger ring with angled Picatinny rail.

It does seem a bit concerning that the "plastic bag looked crumpled"

To the OP,
I don't think your questions were out of line one bit nor do I think you were trash talking or using the forum for customer service.
None of this is your fault and no apology of any sort is necessary.
I'm sure SWFA will make it right, but you are the one that should be a little chapped by having to go thru the extra BS.
The rest of us should be thankful for the heads up.
I appreciate your post.

That sounds like a nice setup. I've never thought of using the T-1 mounted like that. I've stayed away from the .308 just because I have too many calibers already and the 6.5 Grendel sort of mirrors the .308's performance. But then Ruger had to go and introduce that new Gunsite Scout in .308. D*mn those b*st*rds!

Yeah, I'm using that set up on my .308 to take on a hog hunt in TX later this year.

Super Sniper boxes are not expensive boxes but they are functional they get the scope to you in un-damaged condition. Most guys dont really care much about the box once they get the scope out, what they want is a scope that works and keeps working and the box often gets thrown away or stored in the basement.  If there was enough concern raised Im sure they could add an extra hundred to the cost and come up with a really cool box.   As for the crumpled plastic -- who knows someone may have opened the box to be sure the scope had the correct reticle.  Most of the scopes I have recieved from SWFA that were new looked like the box had never been opened. Even the used demo scopes I have bought from them looked great.  My take - get over it - if the scope is there and the scope is right that is what it's all about.

I didn't see this as using the forum for customer service issues at all. He was simply asking if they come with instructions or not.

That being said, if I'd bought that scope and it came like that and I'd paid a new price, I'd be bothered by it. I'd for sure give them a call and they will most likely make it right for you. If they wanted to sell me it at a demo price, then I'd be fine with it, but not at full price as I expect a scope in new condition when I order a new scope. Especially for what these cost. It's not like they are a $20 scope from Walmart.

If he wants an instruction manual or complains about the condition of the wrapper that is a customer service issue.  Can I fix that no can SWFA fix that YES.  Buy a clue if you are not totally happy jumping up and down overjoyed that you have that awesome scope then call them and explain your concerns.  Who knows there are several possibles - could be that all of them have crumpled plastic bags mine didnt.  Could be that all of them have boxes that are not the best box out there.  My boxes are kind of so so  thats how my boxes are but they were good enough to get it here safely and I toss the box in the basement anyway.   I am 100% positive that SWFA did not knowingly send him a demo scope as new but I would consider a scope new even if someone opened the box looked at it decided to buy something else and it was put back into the box  --- its still new.  Now if they put it in the display case and left it there a while I believe they would discount it but I doubt that is what happened due to the past EXCELLENT service I have recieved.  Now since nobody on here can do anything for him its a customer service issue.
