New to scope shooting. Am planning to buy a Savage .223 bolt action & a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 Mildot scope.
I'll be bench shooting at 100 & 200 yds. At this distance will the scope suffice or will I need a spotting scope to see my bullet holes? I've never done distance shooting before this only pistol shooting.
Also, for a Savage 12FV, what rings & base should I use? Or, should I ask that in rings & bases?

I think the spotting scope would give you a better view of your targets.  I'm sure the scope would suffice at 100, but 200 might be a stretch.

Yeah, head to the mounts forum for the other question.

At 20X if the glass is reasonably good, you'll have no problem at those distances. Also keep in mind that mirage can defeat even the best glass, although usually farther out. Try it out and if the scope isn't adequate, then consider dumping the bux into a spotter.
