I'm looking for a 1-4 for my AR, preferably with a BDC reticle. There are quite a few out there, and Iw as looking at what SWFA Had to offer.

I was looking at the Tac 30, Millett DMS, Optican 1-4, leatherwood CMR, and those sort of scopes.

The Optican got me interested, but I'm a little leery on the price. It seems like a lot of scope for the money, 1-4, bdc and illum for 150, too good to be true.

What else am I missing?

I'm just looking for a scope I can take out to 3-400 yards at the most, not sure if I need bdc for that range, but it sure would help. Illumination would be nice as well.

Around 300. I'm a teen on a Taco Bell budget, so it's hard to get great glass. If I could, I'd get a PST 1-4, since I like my 4-16 PST so much, but it's not an option right now. If I could find a used Tac30, that would be about perfect, so I could spend more money on ammo.

What are you willing to spend, and will this scope be used in the DMR role or will it be for competition and/or hunting, plinking?

Hunting, Plinking, just to fill the void until I can afford something better such as an Elcan.

do you already have a mount?

if not, it'd be hard to beat the optisan, and still have $$ left over to buy ammo

Never seen one of these, but I've read some fairly positive reviews of this unit.

The only thing I'm worried about with the optisan is the durability. I am not easy on my stuff, and I don't want this to fail me on a hunt or when i need it most. The rifle this will go on will go with me hiking, camping and all that, and I'd like it to be able to hold up. The deal just seems a little too good to be true, but I am tempted to try it.

I put mine on a 450 bushmaster for a while, no issues.

That sounds convincing. I may just have to try it for myself. Whats swfas return warranty? I krylon my gear, since I hunt with it, go out in the rain, and krylon protects it. Would swfa refund it if it failed, but was painted?

You'd need to call and ask,  I did just talk to CFII at SWFA and they are currently out of the mounts but do have the scopes in stock.  that may or may not make a difference to you.

Well, did some more looking, and then I looked at my tax returns, if everything goes right, I'll just get a burris tac30.
