A local store is selling the sightron sii  4.5x14x44 mil dot illuminated ret. for 199.99. I know this model is discontinued but is this a good deal.  I almost bought the sii 3x9x42 for the same price before I saw this scope.  I will put the scope on a rem. 700bdl in 270 for deer hunting.  I would appreciate any comments.

I guess the question I am asking is am I getting too much scope if I go with the 4.5x14x44 when all I will do is hunt deer in the pineywoods of East Texas and occasionally Central Texas.

I wouldn't want minimum magnification of 4.5 for whitetail hunting unless was hunting prairie type area.

Thanks

I was thinking the same thing.  It might be a good price on the scope but what would I use it for since I don't really shoot long distances.

i think that 4.5 on the low side would be fine for normal hunting scenarios.

At that power I would imagine its got to be adjustable objective....some don't care for that on a hunting rifle, I don't mind it at all but some don't like it on anything but varmint and target scopes. The 4 1/2 power would be pretty acceptable for me in any but the very tightest of cover areas. I usually keep my 3.5x10 scope on 4.5 when hunting. They do make a decent scope if the price is pleasing.

Personally I would jump all over it.I have the same scope on my wife's 270 except it has the standard duplex. We also hunt the piney woods. The illumination could come in handy in the woods at last light and your getting a scope with twice the resale value.I think 4.5 is plenty low enough for this kind of hunting as I always leave my 3-9 set at 4 pwr while hunting these same woods.

Good luck either way
