The Nikon V1.

It has good digiscoping-compatible lenses available, a good 1" sensor, and excellent autofocus capabilities.

Though it isn't strictly a camera I have been having very good luck digiscoping with my IPhone 5S. Here is an HD video I took with it through my Opticron MM3 50 mm spotting scope. Be sure to click on the HD option in the bottom right hand corner before playing.

Very nice again, it's hard to believe a little phone will do that.

The go pros are too wide angle for digiscoping.

This would be my luck not working that is, though I had hoped it would, it was bought as a toy to take on outings etc. so maybe not a total loss.

I do not digiscope a whole lot, but I do phonescope a fair bit using the adapter and phone case from a company appropriately named Phoneskope.

I have just recently switched to an android phone and the camera on this thing is almost as bad as on the iPhone, so instead I use my slightly older Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows phone which still has one of the best cameras ever put into a phone.

The setup is pretty compact and the phone has a pretty nice screen, so I also use it when I need to look through the spotter, but do not want to touch it:

How are you using the SL1 for digiscoping? What does your setup look like?

ILya,

I have found the iPhone 6 plus delivers good image quality and the lens is much improved from earlier versions. It is even stabilized.

iPhone 6 is decent.

I use Samsung Note Edge and it is decent as well.

Every new model is an improvement over the one before typically, although it is incremental.

Still, neither of these comes close to Lumia 1020 image.  Naturally, since Microsoft who bough Nokia's cell phone business has not managed to come up with a replacement for the 1020, I ended up switching.

Note Edge is a much better overall device, than the 1020, but not in terms of the camera.

ILya

Koshkin,

I was a little taken aback by your Iphone comment as well. I use the 5S with two spotting scopes that cost well under $1000 and I can obtain some very acceptable photos....depending on environmental conditions of course.

Case in point, the pic taken below is one of my favorites. That was shot with the Iphone 5S and a 50 mm spotting scope. Distance was about 50 yards.

I have also been happy with some of the video I have digiscoped with it. My youtube page has some nice illustrations of this.

FrankD, a good photographer can take a good picture with almost any camera.  That does not mean that it is a good camera.

I work in the camera world (I just switched jobs and I am back in it), so my take on cameras is often a little different.

The picture you posted is a very good picture, but looking at it I can see the limitations of the camera.  It is a testament to your ability that you got that picture with that camera.

ILya

ILya,

I think I know what you are referring to and would agree in that sense.

I held off on buying a 6 since they didn't offer a substantial enough improvement in the camera over the 5S. Hopefully the 7 or 7S makes more than an incremental leap.
