I've read where many think the vx3 has better glass than the mark 4.
Leupolds data states the Mark 4 series has the index matched lens system while the vx3 has the xtended twlight lens system.
Can someone with more knowledge on this subject explain the difference between thes two lens systems ?

Its mostly marketing jargon with xtended twilight being newer than index matched. The new Mark 4s get the xtended twilight coatings like the VX-3.

It's all marketing jargon. Xtended twilight is L's latest, greatest lens coatings.

I think im going to start a new scope manufacturing company, come up with catchy phrases like "Infinity Squared" coatings utilizing monalithic flucuations of the gamma rays to better modulate existing light while actually magnyfiying and intensifying it. So good, it will enable blind people to utlize this technology.

I see we don't have many leupe fans here. So your saying these 2 lens systems are the same ?
The new Mark 4s get the xtended twilight coatings like the VX-3. I'm not disputing you , but this is not what leupolds info says. |

It's not an anti-Leupy thing. All scope companies use technical sounding marketing jargon to tout their new stuff, some more than others.
I actually like some of Leupold's stuff, namely the low magnification VX-3's. They make a fine scope, just not always the best cost:value ratio scopes. Yes, the glass used is the same, and the lens coatings are now the same. The new MK4 is getting upgraded with their newest, improved lens coatings used on the VX-7 and VX-3 series, nothing more. There's far more that influences optical quality than just the glass type and coatings used. |

Thanks you were right.
For some reason when I pulled up leupolds page and printed out the specs of the m4 LRt target it listed index matched lens system. When I pulled up the link you posted it says xt lens system. Don't know what happened , but thanks for getting me on track ! |

The problem is how leo dealt with the whole thing. I have 3 mark4's with the older lenses. Then leo came out with the new model of the vx3 with the extended lens, but waited almost 2 years before putting them in the mk4s, when they could have easily changed over. As a long, long time user of leo (currently 15 leo scopes) these mks will be put on old varmit guns because of better stuff coming out by other companies. Yea, no bitter taste here. I vote with dollars.
