I LIKE the .25 cal rounds. I've got a .25-06 Model 70. Also got a Husqvarna .30-06 that could use a bbl and am thinking of going with the .257 Roberts.
I've got two Mauser action rifles. The Husqvarna and a custom on a military action so I know what your concerns are with scope/bolt handle clearance. I'm using Leupold Rifleman Series rings(vertical split)and bases on both with a Simmons MS Prohunter 2-7x32WA on the Husqvarna and a VXIII 1.75-6x32 on the other. Both clear easily. What power range scope are you thinking about going with?

I like the FFII scopes. They've been around a good while and are known for being a tough scope.  I especially like the German 3P#4 in that 2-7x35.

As I said before, the lowest ring/base set-up I've found has been Leupold's Rifleman Series vertical split ring and base set.  Of course stock comb configuration is important as far as cheek weld goes. Here are my two Mauser actioned rifles. The custom has the higher comb which is more condusive to a better cheek weld.

  Copy and paste.
First,to copy from Photobucket.  Left click on the "IMG CODE" line under the pic you want to post here. It will read "COPIED"
To post here, first go to the message box and click in it. Then left click on "EDIT" in the upper left corner of the tool bar on the screen. Then click on paste.
     That should do it.
