Anyone know anything about them?

Couple weeks ago I was on my way home and we were traveling on the highway, came to a red light then it just died on me.

I tried cranking it up, and nothing. Then I remembered once I flooded my Ford, and held the gas peddle down to crannk it, did that and it fired up.

Luckilly made it home with no issues, but now I'm trying to figure out what is wrong.

Alot of my friends think it's the injectors, but it would idle rough and pour white smoke. And it's not doing that.

Any ideas???

Truck
2005 Dodge Ram 2500
5.9 Cummins Turbo Diesel
200,000 on the dial and have not done any motor mods.
Just religous oil and lube changes

I hope it's not injectors. Going to find out for sure what it is on Monday, going to the doctor on Monday night.

just kidding man.  Wish I knew.  I never got to diesel classes when I did my ASE certification classes in highschool.  Is it still acting up now or just the one time?

You and CF, man, beat me up about Dodge, I didn't buy the truck b/c it was a ram, I only bought it for the power plant.

Around town, it isn't messing up, but I feel a loss of power on long drives.

If it was your Ford I'd say check your CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor), not sure on a Cummins.

I was thinking it might be a sensor going out.  Sometimes with electronic sensors they will start acting up and cause issues.  A computer diagnosis may be a quick answer.

My guesses would be fuel pump, or throttle position sensor.  Check your oil and see if it's over full and for traces of diesel, had a buddy with an 03 Dodge and when he lost two injectors he wound up with fuel in his oil, good luck.

Check the filter and fuel for water.  Could also be an injection pump on its last leg.  If you have to replace it consider upgrading to a quality after market unit from one of the turbo diesel specialty shops.  The price difference will be quickly offset by performance and fuel economy gains as well as longevity.  My experience is based on a couple of 90's Ford diesels when I lived in WY.  It seemed to be fairly common, usually just after the warranty was up.

I'd say check your fuel filter and possible water in fuel.   The 05 is all digital fuel injection I believe so yes it could be the pump starting to go or possible the fuel pressure regulator.  Hopefully the codes will till you.

I know my son's 05 Duramax, when he first bought it would run fine until fully warmed up then loose most of its power....bad EGR was the code...

Good Luck

Skylar.

Did a flow test and appears to be the ACM in the tank.

When you turn the key on, it should pupm 750 Mililiters, I'm around 450ish.

Pulled it out of the tank. Now I have to find a new one, and get it in, and make sure that is the only issue.
