I have a question I have the chance to purchase a 6x24x72 diavari with badger rings for 2500 purchased last year.Is this scope going to not work for F class and bench shooting.I did want a scope that will be clear and large enough to spot the mirage with.Is it just to big off the ground and should I pass on it.Will I be better served with the USO OR NIGHTFORCE OR 56mm ziess.

If I had the coins the USO would be my choice. I think that 72mm is going to be hard to get a good cheek weld behind so a tad smaller would be my preference, but any of the above are so good that they will all work very well.

Heck, why stop at 72mm.  Might as well get this sucker.

Welcome, Beretta!

While I'm sure the Zeiss 6-24X72 is an awesome scope in every respect, the 72mm objective is going to require the scope be mounted very high, and even if you have an adjustable cheepiece on your stock, I think it might be a hindrance to prone shooting because of how high your head would have to be positioned relative to your upper body.  Since competitive shooting doesn't involve dim light visibility, I just don't see how the 72mm objective will give you any benefit that a 56mm objective and smaller would provide sufficient to compensate for the negative tradeoffs in mounting height and additional cost.

Dale has a point; that is a good price, IF you have a use for the scope.  If it poses a cheekweld problem, it's not a good choice regardless of price.

If you like Zeiss there is another option. But new cost on the 72 is $3699. so its a real buy.

I'd bet he wouldn't see a noticeable drop in image quality with that scope vs. the 72mm version except in very low light conditions.

I have used all types of scopes I have had 56 bells before it's only 6mm more higher off the the barrel;I have a night force now and it's 56 no need for the higher angled base with a 34 mm tube plenty to 1000.just no sunshade unless i make one.It is a diavari and with badger rings I'm still on the fence.I have used smaller scopes don't like to hunt for the target so I thought Great field of view downrange and I am so confused about it.Hate tpo let it go but hate to get stuck also.

Beretta
I am using the 72 scope and is more than positive to it.
It's a great scope and I have also owned USO, Nightforce,Leuoplds and others....
I am not the smallest impressed by the USO, opticsvise its far away from Zeiss, S&B  and Nightforce, and it looks like it's made in Russia.
However mostly my use for the 72 mm is low light hunting, for the shooting I cannot see any reason for 72mm at all.
You will not have bigger field of View, you will have a much bigger scope, that is all.
For both Zeiss 72 and 56mm Ziess is making sunshades.

I think the price is very good and most likely won't see this scope offered again for all I'm getting.I think I will give it a try.Technika.nu you have any problems with height or not is this worth buying or should I but the 56.I would use the ard but I didn't think zeiss has the inside of the bell machined and threaded for a sunshade?

For your competition use I would prefer the 56mm.
The 72mm is threaded for sunshade or ARD.
On the 56mm they offer only outside clampmounting.

The military 56 versions Hensoldt 3-12x56, 4-16x56 and 6-24x56 are inside threaded but not the civilian models.

I have the ARD but to prefer the sunshade, the optical qualitys suffer from the ARD and the only time when I considers a ARD is in very difficult strong sun or a tactical aplication (And that won't happend)
