Well, I don't keep up on Kimbers, personally have no use for them... that was a quote from one of the gun mags, Chuck Hawkes article, I think... my point was asking what KIND of rifle he was putting the scope on.  I usually don't keep track of the sissy guns, but am interested in what the rifle is going to look like.  Kimber must upping the quality, though if they are making a 458 Lott now.  Finally stepping up and building a rifle with some KO power.
Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

.........................I saw one too! They are very nice, very beautiful and heavier. Imo, more at home in a lighted and fancy see through gun cabinet as a show piece, rather than on a foul weather or on a very harsh or strenous hunt!

It is certainly not a rough it style of rifle. I don`t like to worry about such things as accidental rifle drops, wood dings, wood scratches, weather warping or any adverse wood reaction from cleaning products, or spending time cleaning and polishing, coddling and protecting the rifle while on a hunt, either in poor terrain and/or in poor weather!........Nope!

Most of my rifles have wood stocks and I don't abuse them on purpose.  However to quote, "they are not holy relics" and over the years they have some well earned beauty marks.  Unless your sitting in a stand or a plains hunter awfully difficult not to get a few blemishes walking through the hardwoods!

Beauty marks ay???..........Real good and fine wood is better for home furniture. Such as paneling, coffee tables, desks, bed frame head boards and footboards, wood boarders, front doors, bookshelves and all that jazz.

Sooner or later, those stand hunters and plains hunters will accidentally either drop and scuff up their stocks, scratch them on rocks, make contact with a tree or a branch in denser terrain, or whatever.

If I were to carry around a rifle with a fine and beautiful piece of wood, my natural inclination and instinct, would be to concentrate more on protecting that rifle with maybe less concentration hunting with it. If I were to own an expensive showpiece rifle like the Kimber Caprivi or a Weatherby, I`d certainly want to keep it that way and avoid any of those so-called beauty marks.

To avoid these issues and worries all together, I simply won`t own them to begin with! For a DGR, I`ll stick wth a simple, a real rough it, great handling, my go anywhere in any terrain and under any foul weather and temperature condition; .375 Ruger Alaskan!

............Oh! I remember now!.......I was going to buy a new M1500 Howa chambered in the 375 Ruger. My neighbor, who was going to buy my Ruger Alaskan for what I paid for it after I received my new M1500, passed away a few months ago. I cancelled the Howa order and keeping the Alaskan.

Can understand your viewpoint Squeezer but in all truth my rifles aren't showpieces (at least from a pricing perspective) and I have still had the enjoyment of admiring them whenever I use them, beauty marks and all over the years.  Some tell a tale that takes me back to hunts long ago.  God, now I'm getting all sentimental!

i dont give a damn about scratches and dings, but one thing i dont like about wood is that it is temp and moisture sensitive, it moves when either of those things drastically change. which is why i like laminate better yet

..................With the lesser expensive (non showpieces) woods, there is far less to worry about and be concerned with. The expense is far less, the wood may not look as nice and there is less inclination or instinct of protectionism.

It is quite another issue to screw up a very expensive stock after spending $3K plus! For me, I would be quite peeed off and less likely to just chalk things up as beauty or rememberance marks!

Due to pride in ownership and wanting to show the rifle, I`d want no nicks, marks or scratches on an expensive and beautifully grained wood stock.

So! I just avoid those potential problems from the get go!

Gotta agree with that!

$3K on a stock - not even in my dreams (at least if I want to stay married).
