Alright guys I'm new to the website so I'm sorry if come with an old and boring question, however I'm going to add a twist.  So the question is, what is your favorite deer hunting caliber and most shots are fairly clear and 200 yards or less.  The twist is, to exclude the big three calibers 30-06, 308 and 270.  With that being said I'm going to say that my choice would be 6.5x55, I can think of lots of others like 30-30, 243, 25-06, 6mm, 260, 7mm-08, whats your favorite?

In heavy cover I like the 444 marlin, at extended ranges I normally would choose the 06, but seeing this isn't allowed I'll go to my 260.

Geez, out to 200yds. and clear how about-243,243AI,250sav,250AI,257roberts,7mmrem mag, this could go on forever, almost anything above 223 could handle the chore and maybe even a few below that. How about just using whatever is legal and comfortable for you.

.280 Remington, where I can use it.  90% of my rifles are this caliber.

Remington 1100 in 12 ga, rifled barrel, and receiver scoped.
This is what I've taken my last 20+ deer with.

I live in Michigan's shotgun / ML only zone.

7mm-08.  It has no downside for a medium big game round for any reasonable shooting distance.  It's the definition of efficency.

Gotta dance with who brung ya!

I've been shooting .308 so long I can dope the scope from memory and dope the wind on the reticle; with that confidence in the round and ballistics, why hunt something else?

.270!!!!!!!!! wait that was excluded too................270!!!! Or 300 wby...... because I like them dead too. Actually, if I'm limited to 200 yards for sure, I'd probably take the 22-250. Because that's legal here.

I've seen 'em walk with double lung 300 win mags

I wasn't the shooter seen 'em walk with 2 loads of

00 buck to the lungs, and  I was the shooter, and it left

lungs and ribs laying on the ground. However I've never

seen one walk from a 25-06 as long as the hit was anywhere

near where it was sussposed to be.....and the .243 winchester

is a great round suited for white tail. I also think the .44 mag, .41
mag, .357 mag and the 30/30 winchester are all top notch.....
I usually use a 25-06 in the neck, or back bone, and most any rifle
cal as long as the proper bullet is used will be great, white tails are easy.
ai think the most importaint thing is the bullet open up and expand and
fragment in soft tissue, but then again you wouldn't want to hit a WT in the
sholder with a 22-250, well at least I wouldn't, but a 30/30 will bust through as
well as many others....you would'nt want to go out with a 375 H&H and
then flinch every time you shoot....also you wouldn't want to go out in open
fields with a 44mag, where you expect a 200 + yard shot..

I think the problem with big high speed rounds is the go through and leave
a small wound channel, but the little whiper snapers open up and do more
collateral damage, there's alot of good info on wound channels on line
if you wanna look for it..

So what I'm getting at, is choose a round you like to shoot and can shoot well
then choose the proper bullet.
Sorry for the long post but this is a fun topic...

No offense bro, but I am calling the BS Flagflag on you there.  You don't honestly expect any of us to believe that someone shot a deer through both lungs with any caliber rifle and it walked away.  Loco

they can walk supertool.  My elk walked 30 yards after a double lung knocked him to the ground at 430 yards with my 300 WM.  Oh wait.  That was elk. Um.  I have never seen deer walk more than 10 step after a 300 hit.

Ok, I would go with a 264 Win Mag.  Just because I would like one.

Well of course they can walk.  He made it sound like they got away with the big guns but go right down with the little guns.  Maybe I just miss read his meaning.

I shot a deer with a .50 cal 265 grain muzzleloader blew up both lungs and a bit of the heard and he ran for 50+ yards.  But he did not get away.

It just takes a minute if you shoot them in the hydraulic system.  Gotta get the electrical system if you want them to go straight down.
