Alright guys I'm new to the website so I'm sorry if come with an old and boring question, however I'm going to add a twist.  So the question is, what is your favorite deer hunting caliber and most shots are fairly clear and 200 yards or less.  The twist is, to exclude the big three calibers 30-06, 308 and 270.  With that being said I'm going to say that my choice would be 6.5x55, I can think of lots of others like 30-30, 243, 25-06, 6mm, 260, 7mm-08, whats your favorite?

In heavy cover I like the 444 marlin, at extended ranges I normally would choose the 06, but seeing this isn't allowed I'll go to my 260.

Geez, out to 200yds. and clear how about-243,243AI,250sav,250AI,257roberts,7mmrem mag, this could go on forever, almost anything above 223 could handle the chore and maybe even a few below that. How about just using whatever is legal and comfortable for you.

.280 Remington, where I can use it.  90% of my rifles are this caliber.

Remington 1100 in 12 ga, rifled barrel, and receiver scoped.
This is what I've taken my last 20+ deer with.

7mm-08.  It has no downside for a medium big game round for any reasonable shooting distance.  It's the definition of efficency.

Gotta dance with who brung ya!

I've been shooting .308 so long I can dope the scope from memory and dope the wind on the reticle; with that confidence in the round and ballistics, why hunt something else?

.270!!!!!!!!! wait that was excluded too................270!!!! Or 300 wby...... because I like them dead too. Actually, if I'm limited to 200 yards for sure, I'd probably take the 22-250. Because that's legal here.

6" colt Trooper .357 Mag. Hunting in heavy cover it has dropped more deer for me than any rifle scratch that all the rifles I have ever carried.
