I can pick up the Vortex PST 1-4 right now on Amazon for $450. That's about the max I want to spend. Looking at 1-4 and 1-6. Probably will be using it to shoot 3 gun type drills. Any help you guys could give would be appreciated.

In this price range, in addition to the Vortex there are a couple of other scopes I like:

All three have their strengths and weaknesses, but, by and large, pick which reticle you like most.

Burris MTAC 1-4x24 is also in the mix, but I am not too excited about its reticle.

Optically, SS and PST are pretty close and are marginally better than CMR4, though all are close.

CMR4 reticle is the most complicated and the busiest, but you can do a lot of things with it.

SS reticle is the fastest and has the quickest range compensation scheme for shots within 300 yards or so.

PST has a rudimentary Zero Stop if you like dialing and the reticle is radially symmetric which some people really prefer.

CMR4 has windage on the left side of the scope for running the scope with the left hand.  CMR4 also has turret covers, which I like in scopes of this class.  I know it is fashionable to have exposed turrets on everything these days, but I really prefer to have them covered or locked on low range variables.

SS has the more flexible eye relief in this group.
