    Posted: December/11/2022 at 13:42
I've got a new Ruger 10/22 that I would like to put a riflescope on.  I have become interested in the Leupold 3-9x40 Freedom rimfire and the Meopta 2-10x42 PA (rimfire) scope.  Does anyone have a preference?  The diensions of both are about the same.  The biggest difference is weight...Leupold 12 ounces...Meoptic 20 ounces.  Would one have better glass than the other?  I just haven't looked through any of the Leupolds since they came out with the Freedom line a couple of years ago....so I have no idea how they compare to the Meopta.  I like the wider magnification of the Meoptic, but I know the Leupold will probably be much easier to get fixed if I ever have a problem.  I also know that Leupolds hold their value if you ever wanted to sale it down the road.  I plan on using it mainly for plinking and small game (squirrel) hunting.  The maximum distance that I will be shooting will probably never be over 100 yards.  Help me make a decision.

Heck I would get the Leupold....I'm sure the Meopta would cost more although they make great stuff. But a $300 Leupold would be a SUPERB 22 scope!

Is there any other brand of scope that I should consider that would be comparable to the Leupold?

Both good choices. I really like Meopta stuff so would probably go with that but I think either will suit you well. Might be worth having a look at some of the higher end Hawke offerings as well.

(Do you guys get Hawke over there?)

I’d probably have a look at the Leupold Freedom EFR model. I have a similar one on a 10/22 I use for plinking and rabbits.

I'd love to try the SWFA SS 2.5-10x32 if it would just come in.

Oh wait, it's showing that it's in.

Gotta go.

Never mind. I didn't see the back order.

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Well you can manage with a 100 yard parallax scope at 22 distances.....unless you're going to 36X or something!  Big Grin

I have two of these scopes, both mounted on .17 HMR rifles, I really like ‘em a lot.

For a .22 rimfire I still probably lean toward the EFR scope.

SS 2.5-10x32 rimfire is a great scope......if you can find one. I have one on a .22 spring gun and it is perfect.
The EFR should be a fine choice.
20 oz of the Meopta is a beast on a 10/22. Meopta glass is really nice, though.

Mrs BF has a Vortex Crossfire 2-7 rim fire scope on her Browning T-bolt, and she is death on golf balls at our golf ball shoots.

I forgot about Vortex. I have 2 Crossfire scopes in 4-12 and 6-24 and beat them up on springuns. The glass is pretty good at the price point. Both have been helping me thin out the chippies in all kinds of light and through thick cover.

Some members of this forum, and others, shoot .22 precision ELR matches  with 1/2 inch targets at 500 yards, 1/4 inch targets at 300 yards...
Whadda ya think now, Frenchy???  might need more than 4x???
Carry on...

Frenchy!!

Now there’s a comparison I would never have expected with Ed. However, I once had a .22 with a 6 power Weaver so now I feel dumb….. thanks Ed
