Well you could have knocked me over with a feather after seeing that video. Guess after I go kill a moose and a sheep, I'll be selling my 06's for certain...

All this talk makes me wanna go out and buy a 270.  I don't have one at the moment.

[ but I would limit it to muleys on the Size of Game scale....]

Well think about it guys

If you go through the pros and cons

1.  Ammo availability
2.  Flat trajectory
3.  Recoil
4.  Rifle availability
5.  Component availability

the 270 is the only one with all pros and no cons

the 06 does not have a flat trajectory (at least with a suitable sectional density bullet) and is less pro on 3

the 280 fails on 1 (factory loads are anemic because of the lower chamber pressure specs and not very available), 2 with factory loads and 4

Now if you are a reloader then different story.  My personal best (most perfect) caliber is the 280AI with 160 gr AB's at over 3000 fps

IOW if someone asks me what rifle would I recommend and he does not reload, the 270 all the way

I almost regret having posted those old 60s psychedelic songs over on Ed's "Oldies Radio" thread... looks like they triggered some acid flashes.

Lets make a fun comparison of .270 and '06 for deer using similar bullet weights.
A .30-06 with a Sierra 125 gr bullet @3100 fps has the same or greater "point blank" range (~ 360 yds.) as a .270 loaded with 130 gr. @ typical 3060 fps. Both calibers have plenty of power remaining at distance for deer. Most factory .30-06 125 gr ammo is loaded faster @ 3140 fps.

Some claim the 125 gr wouldn't have enough sectional density for deer, but  there are many testimonials around the web of people having great success after switching to the lighter '06 125 gr loads for deer. I've found no negatives from anyone who's actually tried it.

What about bullet construction?  A .270 130 gr really can't reach the velocity of a .30-06 125 gr and therefore must use a boattail design to exceed the 125 gr cup and core bullet's range. Boattails notoriously shed their jackets quicker than cup and core bullets.

That .30-06 will even kick less than the .270 because it takes less powder to get that 125gr up to the velocity needed to reach the same point blank range as the heavier 130 gr. In its favor, the .30-06 125 gr @ 3100 fps is loaded down, at less chamber pressure than the .270 130 gr.  For top end,  the 125 gr Sierra can be loaded beyond 3300 fps.

This comparison could talk about a 110 gr .270 load at 3300+ fps, but look close and you'll find that load doesn't really stretch the point blank range, either.
Let's take it the other way... I have some Federal .30-06 ammo on hand with 180 gr Partitions @2880 fps. Is there a .270 load which hits that hard?

It sure is fun to make these sorts of comparisons.  Fact is, one really isn't going to significantly extend the hunting point blank range, or lessen recoil between these calibers at similar ranges until going to an entirely different case capacity.

Oh, no doubt about it, the 30-06 is more BIGGER and versatile....but the 270 is a good cartridge.

It's time for me to get serious and say that yes, sakomoto is right, .270 is a fine caliber and has much to recommend it. There's no need for me to tease people about their .270's. Really.
