Not long ago, a member from another Hunting Forum sold to my daughter a LH Winchester M70 Fwt. stainless Classic that he had previously sent to PacNor for conversion to 7x57mm Mauser.
I replaced the extractor with a Williams SS extractor. Replaced the factory two-piece bottom metal with a PT&G one-piece Oberndorf (aluminum). Recessed the crown on the barrel and coated the metal with GunKote. I then had Wayne Jacobson of American Hunting Rifles build a stock proportionate to my daughter (12.5" LOP), smooth and tune the action to ensure reliable feed and extraction. Wayne e-mailed me yesterday to let me know my daughters rifle is completed. Now all we need to do is decide on a scope. My daughter is leaning heavily towards a Swarovski Z3 3-9x36mm with the 4a reticle. We're hoping to break it in and bloody it on a wt buck this Fall. |

That's a BEAUTIFUL rifle, buddy!
A 3-9X36 Swaro Z3 would be right at home on top of that fine rifle, which deserves top flight glass. |

It's interesting as my daughter is about to start her third year in college, and never once has she previously expressed an interest in hunting.
She's been an avid rimfire shooter since she was 11 or 12. But never a desire to hunt. She accompanied me to the SCI Convention in Las Vegas earlier this year..... and something just "clicked". Now she's eager to hunt feral hogs, deer, and looking forward to a planned safari in 2014. For the interim, I believe she'll be shooting 140gr. NP, however, I'll be working up a load with 175gr. NP for the dark continent. Going to use the tried and true Talley LW rings, and I believe we're going to initially go with a Leupold VX-R 2-7x33mm Firedot #4 as she seems to like that particular reticle. |
