After reading an editorial praising the virtues
of low-dose aspirin, I looked into it more and learned the following: 1)
Because of the rebound effect (being more likely
to have a heart attack) if you discontinue taking it, you’d have to be
committed to popping pills the rest of your life…too early for that 2)
Side effects aren’t limited to more bleeding if
you get injured. But also
include (per Mayo Clinic) increased risk of a burst blood vessel stroke…sounds
like fun 3)
You'd have to limit alcohol consumption because that
also thins the blood I think, particularly in light of
item 3, that I'm better off drinking wine or beer in moderate
quantities, limiting saturated fat intake, and swilling coffee. The latter will
take care of your prostrate and maybe delay mental decline. Will report back in 20 years. |

Per my Cardiologist, I've been on aspirin for several years. The "easy bleed" issue is a PIA and I've been known to imbibe a bit also. But, I reckon it's better than an early eternal dirt nap.

I agree with bnb. I have been on 325mg aspirin and 75mg plavix daily since a near fatal heart attack in 09.
serious PIA, but leaps and bounds better than the eternal dirt nap!

No doubt if your doctor has recommended it it's a good idea. With me, its probably my wife busting my chops that will eventually have me on heart medication!

Geez Louise. You're dead and just don't know it yet!!! All kidding aside, P&V can definitely be an asset. |
