Could use a little input guys.  Have a CZ 455 PT - suppressor ready 16.5 barrel on order.  I'm planning on putting either a EGW or Murphey Precision base on for scope mounting.  Any thoughts on this or just choose one?

I'm up in the air with what scope to mount - most likely going to go with a SWFA SS.

SS 3-15 FFP- adjustable parallax.

SS 5-20 - Maybe too much scope for a .22, but still has adjustable parallax, but a narrower field of view, plus a higher cost.  Size wise, may be awfully big looking on a PT.

SS 3-9 - set parallax @ 100, but a bomb proof scope.

Will most likely put on a set of Aadland scope caps - buy once, cry once.

Would like to run a set of Aadland double lug rings - Yes, I know they are probably overkill on a .22, but want a good set of rings in case this scope get moved to a larger caliber.

Can anyone comment on what height Aadland rings I need with this setup?  I don't have the rifle yet, but want to get my parts list nailed down.

As far as the scope goes, I'm gonna be using this at the range 50 yds and can go up to 300 - paper and steel for fun and practice.  It could also see some gopher and squirrel hunting.

Anyone that's been there and done that, I'd appreciate your feedback.  Thanks in advance.

The 5-20x only adjusts down to 50 yards.  the 3-15x goes down to 10 yards.  So if you plan on shooting under 50 yards, the 3-15x may be better for precision shooting if that is your intent.  Otherwise the 5-20x is a better scope.

That's kind of what I was thinking - the 3-15 might be better suited for the CZ.  I have a 3-9 on a .223, and a 5-20 on my .308.  5X may be a little much on a .22 on the low end?

I was pushing my M&P15-22 topped with a Vortex Viper 2-7 out to 200 yds the other day.  Using some Kentucky windage I was able to hit steel @ 200 yds which was fun.

I want to go with more variable power on this CZ.  Most shooting will be 50 - 100, but will play around with 200 - 300 just because the range has steel out that far.

As far as precision shooting goes, yeah I'd like to shoot tiny groups, but I'm no competitor.  I want to get better at reading wind, training.  With a good dose of plinking and some hunting once in awhile.

The 5-20 is still a consideration, but it's heavier, smaller field of view, and does cost more.

As far as the 3-15 goes, I know little about them.  I mounted one for a friend on his rifle, but have never spent any time behind one shooting.

If it were me, I would go with the  3-15x.  Simply for cost. The classic line are great scopes.  I had a fixed 10x on a .22 for a couple years.  Really liked it, the 3-15x would be better because of the variable.

Thank you I appreciate the advice!  The rifle is on backorder from CZ............ Unknown ship time.  This is more than likely gonna be something I assemble over the winter, so I'll be looking forward to the Black Friday sale!

The SWFA 3-15X would be a good choice.  I had a CZ 455 varmint with a 22LR and 22 magnum barrels that I mounted the 3-15X on.  Functionally it was excellent but it was a lot of scope for that rifle with its Sporter stock.  With the Manners, it may look more at home.

Marine24,

Did you put a base on top of the receiver dovetails?  If so, what height rings did you go with using the SS 3-15?

The rifle I have on order has a heavy barrel with no taper.

I have the same rifle with a Nightforce 3.5-15x50 on mine. I just went with CZ high rings and have about an eighth of an inch clearance between the scope covers and the barrel. I didn't want to use a base since that would just increase the number of clamps that could come loose. So with the SS 3-15x42 I am guessing with the same setup you would have about 1/4 of an inch of clearance.

If I remember correctly, they were Talley 30mm dovetail rings. I think they were Medium heights but don't quote me. They were more than high enough and may have been able to get away with lows with the 42mm objective but the stock I was using had a Monte Carlo cheek piece.

Thanks for the ring height info.!  Appreciate it.  Am pretty sure I'm going to go with a Murphey Prec. base with at least 20 MOA built in.  Depending on scope that I ultimately settle on, I may go with 30 - 40 MOA base.

Marine24,

One more question, how was the bolt clearance between the SS 3-15 and the bolt handle?

I have a Nightforce 3-15 mounted in TPS low rings on a rail mount on my CZ Precision Trainer.  Scope to barrel clearance is good and bolt handle to scope clearance is good.  I don't remember if the rail is a DIP or Murphy Precision.

Hard to tell from the picture, but do you have enough clearance for scope caps?

My rifle has:
Murphy Precision 20 MOA base
TPS #30570 30mm low rings
Nightforce #C359 3.5-15x50 F1

With this combination I have .20" clearance from the barrel to the bottom of the objective.  When I put on the rubber Nightforce lens protector it is a bit squished between the barrel and scope.  Medium height TPS rings should give enough clearance to work for you with scope caps.

TPS low ring # 30570 are .925" from the top of the base to the center of the ring
TPS  medium ring # 30571 or 30581 are 1.075" from the top of the base to the center of the ring

Thanks for that.  Wasn't sure of the objective size with that Nightforce.  50 mm vs. 42 mm on the SS 3-15.  I should be able to get down a bit lower.

With a 42mm objective I would gain 4mm or .1575" in clearance.

Current clearance is .20" + .1575" = .3575"

With a 42mm objective my clearance would be approximately .3575" or just a tick under 23/64".

The Nightforce F1 3.5-15x50 has an objective bell diameter of 59mm. The SS 3-15x42 has an objective bell diameter of 49.4mm.

BTW the CZ rings I used are .63" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube)

Bigdaddy,

What MOA slope base are you using?  What brand and height of rings are you running?
