Just woundering if any one out thier has one of these? Picked up one last hunting season for a camp gun and have not had good or even OK groups out of it. I have tried different scopes and I am now on my 2nd set of rings and bases, still shooting 5" groups at 100 yards. This is my setup: 7mm-08, swift premier 3-9x40, Z2 alloy base and rings. 140 grain federal interbonds. Any suggestions on how to make this one shoot.

5 in at 100 is totally unacceptable.  I would take it back where I bought it and take the target and tell them you believe that it is defective or I would trade it onto something else and get rid of it. The system is like an Encore from Thompson Center and I have a couple of those and I have found that some barrels shoot and some do not group or prefer either a light bullet or a heavy bullet. Since I reload I can vary the load quite a bit and sometimes that helps but a 5 in group at 100 just wont put meat on the table reliably. If I had to suggest a rifle out of the box that will shoot well I would probably buy a Savage with accutrigger. It is amazing how many rifles are not tight shooting rifles. I have heard good things about the NFA Handi Rifles - single shot similar to what you have and relatively low cost, but the savage rifles tend to shoot very well for what they cost. When I first saw CVA Optima I was thinking Musket and a 5 in group with a musket can be caused by several things usually too strong of a powder charge or failing to run a wet and a dry patch down the bore after each shot but with a center fire that should not be the case.  I hate to say I but I dont think it's a keeper.  I have had good luck with Warne bases and rings and I have Leupold rings on several rilfes and have had mostly good results with Leupold, I have heard good things about the Talley one piece ring& base setup.  Given a choice I use steel rings. As for scopes the Bushnell 4200 scopes and the Sightron S1 and S2 scopes seem to be a good value and quality scopes.

I would certainly get rid of the alloy rings and bases. I have seen those twist and move under gun recoil.

I have one in 223 and 50 cal. The 50 has a nikon omega and have shot it out to 200 yrds and has about a 3 inch group with  no problem. The 223 has no problem with nickle size groups at 100 yrds.

Have you tried different loads
