I am a physics professor and am writing an undergraduate optics textbook. I would like to include a discussion of  a rifle scope. Does anyone know where I can get: (a) a high quality (300 dpi) cutaway image of a rifle scope and/or (b) a ray diagram of a rifle scope, preferably one that lists the focal lengths and the distances between the lenses? Thanks for any help you can give on this

Don't know about the (b) request, but try" www.swarovskioptik.com. That will get you halfway there.

If the book goes to print, are we going to get a discount or better yet royalties????

Roy,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have sent inquiries to four major manufacturers of rifle scopes; hopefully one will send me something.

I'll let you know if swarovski comes through with the best picture.

John

Sorry, thought you just needed the image for the textbook. How large of a diagram are you looking for?

The cutaway image is for the textbook, and the key thing about it is that it must be 300 dpi.

The ray diagram doesn't need to be 300 dpi, I can always redraw it. I just think it would be interesting to see the kind of numbers that are used.

That would be great! Chris was talking about doing this, so you might want to coordinate with him.

Thanks.
