Had a great day coyote hunting yesterday.  The day started off kind of slow as it was very foggy.  At about 9:45 we went by Grandpa's gravestone........ he must of liked that, cause we only drove about 2 miles and ole Wiley was running our way!  It ran towards an abandoned farm place and we were able to cut him off.  I ran him up to the top of the hill and we all baled out.  My two boys were in the back seat, so I took my time and let them get the first shot.  Tucker, my oldest, missed.  Ty, forgot to jack a round in the chamber and got the dreaded ol "click".  My buddy and his adult son also missed.   I hit him with my first shot!  That was with my .223 700 BDL with the newly adjusted trigger.
We got on the phone to let the crew know we were seeing dogs and about an hour later we had another one going.   We were driving my buddies suburban, which he had just painted a white/light gray.  Well the dogs must have had a tough time seeing us because the next two ran right towards us too!  My buddy got the second one with his first shot.  we missed the next one and we dumped the hounds on it.  He ran into an unpicked cornfield and wouldn't come out.  We had to go in the track down the hounds......they wouldn't come out either.

Nothing like some coyote shooting to get the blood pumping! Up here they will be hard on the deer this winter with the deep snow.

well when i was growing up in western wyoming we just drove out of town and found a place that gave  us a good vantage point and my bro in law or father in law used a mouth call and we would call them in. now that i live in mn, they do it totally different here, and i havent tried it, but they wait until there is snow on the ground, then on full moon nights with no clouds they sit in the fields and call them in, the bad part is that you got wolves in the woods as well, so you gotta be careful about what you shoot.

Same as Pyro.  Either call them in or if you can find a recently killed deer...that works wonders.
