Welcome to The OT, Vet.
Just for clarification purposes, is this the scope you bought and say sucks?

With soooo many tacticool knock off scopes out there now, I find it hard to keep up.....
Dark Ops Holdings, huh?
In the post linked above, Mike Miller was testing one and for some reason deleted his post. Mike Miller is a real deal guy and well respected. |

There are some scopes for sale from China on ebay that look just like it for just over a $100, may be Dark Ops source.

Just looked at the CS thread and pics.
Think back a few years, Springfield had that scope, different knobs though. Then a vaunted maker debuts remarkably similar unit. Both units went missing when a certain optics company went belly up a few years back.
Now the people of that "other" country resurface with a unit having knock off parts from 3 different scopes.
The optical world is a smaller place all the time.

Until recently, I don't think anyone was using an objective that large in a daylight scope for military sniping. They are now, but that is fairly new development. However, I have been "out of the loop" for a few years and maybe I missed something. So, my best guess is the property of U.S. is just scam marketing. They list "bertrillium zantitium" as their lens coating. That is not the name of any chemical compound, and doesn't have "TM" marked next to it, so again it appears to my eyes to be scam marketing. I looked at a few pictures and the ones that I have seen have clear lens covers, again not something that I have ever seen in military application. We used nylons stretched over the lens, back before all the fancy ARDs. I just can't imagine anyone in the military willing to risk a specular reflection from a flat shiny surface. Lastly, I have never heard of a military scope with 1/8" clicks. Police yes, military no. It would just be too fine for most military applications. That's my two cents.... |
