If price were no object, which Mil Dot scope would you purchcase, and if it came with upgrades what would you do?  I was looking for something along the lines of 15-20x magnification.  Objective size is up for discussion too.  I was looking at the US Optics ST10 17x.

I just purchased a Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 PMII w/P4 reticle for a Sako TRG-42 in 338 Lapua.  The scope will be here Wednesday, the rifle, probably in two weeks.  The MilDot never entered into the equation.

Call me insane.

Chris

1. US Optics SN-3 3.2-17x44mm w/ ERGO and a EREK knob in medium Badger rings, on a 20 MOA rail and a MOA reticle. A wonderful optic and a great company.

(Just like I used to have.)

It's a MOA world...Rule it!!

2. S&B PMII Like Chris mentioned.

My one and only complaint about the S&B is that everything is in metric.

Or am I mistaken??

A superb piece of optics though to be sure!!

Naw, the Gerries finally realized that it's an AMERICAN world and now do 1/4" clicks, which is what my guy sold me.  The P4 is evidently what the Canadians are using, so I'll go sit in the corner for now.  Not that I'll shot far that often, but with the 338s 1300m+ range, MilDot isn't all that necessary for my needs.

Loading up some 250gr SMKs over H4831 as I type, so can't wait.

Later, Chris

1/4" clicks, but the parallax adjust (side focus) is meters, not yards. No big deal.

I think the older models were metric.

Great scope!! Lucky you. Did you by from Matt??

I have only owned one S&B, a PH, and it was wonderful.

So let's say I was only gonna shoot 500-1000yd, would you bother with the variable mag?  Guess I couldve mentioned that in my opening post, sorry.   What about the difference between a 30mm maintube, and a 35 or 40mm?  I know that for the most part no matter what size your objective, only so much light can go in through the maintube, more or less.

My 375 likes 260gr Accubonds over 94gr of 4350.  There is a 12" gong set up @ 575yd at the range thats all sorts of tore up.  Wonder why?!

Hi again!

I went through EuroOptics.

Honestly, I can't really tell if the SF focus is in M/Yds, but that as you say is no biggie.  I adjust my others to focus and pay no bother to the readings.  Kind of like 'idiot gauges' on cars, in a way.  I'm no math whiz, but I know metric pretty well for the basic stuff.

I'm new to the 338 and there's not a ton of data on it, but the Sako is 1/12 twist, so some have said it favors ~250s.  I bought a bunch of moly coated 300gr SMKs from an Ebayer who was getting out of the LM, 100 rds of it loaded, so I'll fiddle with those down the road.  I'm on the fence re: Moly and I tumbled some of the loose tips I got from him.  Other tips are 180/200 Nosler BTs, some Hornady 250 SPs, for breaking in initially and the two SMKs, so I have enough to experiement with.  May get some 250gr Scenars down road, but the budget is kind of wiped out for now.

I'll post a pic here once the rig is up and running.   I'll have to tape up a 50gal trash can so it floats, rent a boat and sail off into International waters to see what this thing can do, as Miami's good for only 100yds.

Take care, Chris

30mm tubes are mainly for more W/E adjustments.

I suggest you do a "search".

I already knew about the w/e adjustments, I was talking about how much light goes through the larger maintube.  I could only imagine how far you could crank of the knobs of the 40mm maintube models.

I might like the U.S.Optics Cheaptrick mentioned even better now that I am a little more educated about this, but the last two $1300+ scopes I bought were Leupold Mark 4 and they are pretty nice scopes.

First pick would have to be the Tasco Pronghorn in 3-9x40mm with diamond reticle.

Second pick would be the Tasco Golden Antler 3-9x40mm. Matte finish no less.

I have looked real hard at the BSA Huntsman 3-9x40mm w/TV reticle too.

What more could one want??

Naaaa, laying all jokes aside...I'd wish someone would be kind enough to buy me the US Optics SN-3, T-pal in a 3.2-17x44mm with the 35mm Main tube. Mil Dot Reticle would be just fine so that it can be moved from one gun to another with out having a custom drop chart type reticle to clash with the other guns. Thanks in advance to the kind person who's willing to buy one for me.

I have been doing some custom work for US Optics and have shot quite a few rifles with their optics on them and to be quite honest they are the Rolls Royce of optics.

I'm trying real hard not to order a GAP Crusader but when I do it will have a US Optics riding on it.

Plus they are made right here in America and are a great company ran buy some real good people.

Joe

At this point you have heard what is the best so lets throw out a couple of paractical scopes that will work and work well and be a pleasure to use. Super Sniper 10x 42  for $299.95 or with side focus for $399.95 and IOR fixed 6x 42 for $449.95. The real advantage of selecting these is that they are tough scopes simple scopes reliable scopes.  Mount with Badger rings and  plus 20MOA base  and you have a great system. Is it the best no, but quite good and for the money its the best value.
