After all the Dan Cooper crappola (during the Obama election) I'm hearing now that Cooper has been sold to Wilson Arms (CT barrel maker). This may be very good news. The Coopers were / are great rifles, but ole' Dan really peed in his corn flakes. It made a lot of people very mad and Cooper's sales took a major dump... even after Dan was ousted. Anybody hear anything similar? I've e-mailed Wilson but haven't received a reply as of yet.

I hope Cooper Arms will make some sort of public press release to clear all this up soon. As long as they remain silent on this, they only hurt themselves further. I have always admired their rifles, and own 2 of them myself. But, as much as I like them, I've vowed never again to buy another one unless I hear a statement from the company that strongly rejects Dan's political views and his support of Obama. We as a community cannot abide firearms companies that in any way support anti- 2nd Amendment politicians. It's amazing to me that this was even an issue, as it defies logic that a person or company who depends on selling firearms for a living would ever support anti-gun politicians. I believe the bumper sticker said it well... "that's like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders!"

Ted, I thought there was a message from Cooper on their website when they first anounced that Dan was getting booted that stated something to the effect that while they had to respect his individual rights, they did not share his political views/votes/donations or something to that effect.

Yeah, I know. It just sounded a little too tepid to me and seemed like more of a reactionary response as damage control. I have a hard time believing that Cooper management were totally taken by surprise when the news story of Dan's support of Obama broke.
I guess I was looking for something more strongly worded and was hoping they would have issued a press release in all the major shooting magazines since then to reassure customers that they in no way supported any anti-gun politician. I kinda wanted them to say something to the effect of "what was this dumbass thinking?!!!" Edited by RifleDude - February/06/2009 at 17:53 |

UPDATE: Well it's true. Cooper was sold on Jan. 7, 2009 to Hugo Vivero of Wilson Arms. He sent me a very nice e-mail confirming such. The operation will stay in Montana, with basically the same shop work staff. He is now reviewing everything with an eye on improved quality (???), customer service and product delivery times. It sounds like he is very serious about ridding the company of Dan Cooper's "mark" and making his own. Good luck to him... I hope it works out well.
