I want to spend about $500 to $600 to scope a Sig556. What means the most is reliability and quality of the glass. I like the ecthed reticle of the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 Rapid Z600, do the Vortex PST (2.5-10x44)or Bushnell 6500 (2.5-16x42 Mil-Dot) have that feature?
Can someone steer me to the best scope for the money.  You can see I want a scope I can use somewhat close up and also out to 500 yards.
The Vortex PST looks great and I really like the illuminated reticle but I have heard in some situations it will "white out"-true?
In this price range am I missing any other scopes (the SS 3-9x42 is only out because I do not want tactical knobs that will get bounced off their settings if bounced around in their case)
Thanks for any help here.

Your reasoning behind not wanting the 3-9SS is null.  They don't move, they are "good" tactical knobs meaning they will not move unless you want them too.  A member on here fell down a hill on top of his R700 and 3-9SS and it didn't loose zero or move the knobs.  Mine has rode around in the back of my truck, outside a case for a month at a time with no un-intentionall knob movement.

The scope I would pick would be the SS 3-9 and if your still convinced you know they will move (even though they won't) look at a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 with a Triangle post

I concur that the SS 3-9 knobs will not move

Super Sniper 3-9 over the others listed.

If you want a higher magnification, then I would try the Vortex PST 4-??

I have a Viper PST and the white out issue appears to be related to head position, it is very finicky about head position.

I had an opportunity just yesterday to check out the Super Sniper scopes and for the money, I don't know that the 3-9x42 Mil Dot FFP for $599 can be beat. If you need an illuminated reticle then that option is out.

I do have the SS 10x42HD on my Barrett 50BMG and it is a great scope. I just thought the SS  3-9x42 since it is not a HD was not quite as good a scope. I am leaning to the Vortex PST for its 30mm tube, illumination and larger 44mm objective. I do not like not having any adjustment for paralex and maybe someone can say how much of an issue that is for accuracy?
Thanks for all the appreciated advice and knowledge.
