OK guys, need your help again.

Need a scope for the Supergrade 300WSM. Narrowed the choices down to either the 3-9x40 COnquest or the "new" Nikon Monarch. Both have 4" eye relief, both hae similiar dimensions, etc. Any other differences? Opinions? I know it's difficult as the Monarch is still "vaporware", but I imagine optics will be similiar to Conquest, right?? And what about the "expanded eyebox" as compared to the Conquest eyebox?

thanks/Kevin

i would let the reticles choose it for you - optically they are both great.

do you need ballistic reticle? or maybe a #4 for hunting?

good luck w/ your decision - i think either will be fine.

how can you make a good honest statement about a product that just came out? it hasnt had enough field time to be tested and proven yet, thats why nobody's replied to you.

I have a 3-9x40 Zeiss Conquest on a Remington 700 .270WSM and a Nikon Monarch UCC 2.5-10 x 50 with the 30mm tube on a .308 Norma Mag. In my opinion, the Nikon is much better, although it is a somewhat unfair comparison, as they aren't exactly alike, the Ziess has a 1" tube and 40mm objective vs. the Nikon with a 30mm tube and 50mm objective. I can tell you that the Zeiss that I own will soon be replaced by something else on the .270WSM, as it isn't as clear or bright as the Nikon and doesn't really meet my expectations. I'm not sure if this is the type of feedback you're looking for, but my advice would be to seek out someone with a scope similar to the one you're considering - if possible, and look through it during the early morning or late evening light. Be sure to look through it at different angles to the sun, i.e. with the sun behind you and more towards the sun, to see if there is a lot of glare when looking towards the sun. All scopes will eventually produce glare in the view, but it's good to see the differences between various models. Be sure not to look directly at the sun, or your new nickname will be "one-eye"... I also would spend some time looking into shadows and poorly lit areas such as under trees with your potential selections, again during morning and evening, to see what kind of brightness, contrast and clarity you get in low light. Last but not least, look at some bare dark colored tree limbs against a bright part of the sky, and see if there is any color fringing around the details - (blueish or purpleish halos). This is chromatic aberration, and naturally less of it is better, as it'll reduce your ability to discern fine detail if it is excessive. I'm not anti-Zeiss, I have some Zeiss binoculars that I think are outstanding, but I am not so impressed with the Conquest 3x9-40's. A good friend of mine has the same scope on one of his rifles, and it has the same "just OK" quality of view, so I'm fairly sure that it's not just my scope being at the outside of the allowable manufacturing tolerances.

Monarch might be a little better, but if you have a problem with it....GOOD LUCK!  Nikons CS suck's and its just not the Sporting Optics Division that has it. It's company wide.

With that being said, I'm considering the Nikon(pray to god), Conquest and IOR

Ditto on the poor Nikon customer service ( been there).  Go with the Zeiss or another product of similar quality.

Have you considered the Elite 4200 scopes?

Smitty-

I have.
As much as I think the 4200 is "best buy" scope, I was looking for something with more eye relief, as it's going on a kicker.
I ended up buying the Monarch. Looks pretty good so far..For sure, tracking adjustments are great, 3 shots and it was zeroed.

I have had really good luck with Nikon's service department. I sent a pair of 8x42 lx bino's in for service and received a brand new pair of the LXL 8x42, 4 weeks later.I also sent a Fieldscope eyepiece that I scratched in and received a brand new one 4 weeks later. This all took place within the last 1+ years.....
anyways I think you made a good call with the Nikon but I have heard nothing but rave reviews for the conquest.
