I have a 3.5-10x44 Conquest on a Rem CDL SF in 300 WSM, am I asking for trouble? The reason I ask is according to some on this forum Zeiss doesn't recommend mounting a Conquest on any magnum rifle. I'd hate to be on a hunting trip and have my scope bite the dust, think I should change scopes for this rifle?

I did it. Then I shot 1000 rounds through it............Now I'm going to shoot some more. I wouldn't be scared. I think they want to sell 30MM scopes, so they tell you not to put 1" scopes on magnums, but that's just my opinion. I plan on putting one on a .300 Wby.

i cannot find anything on zeiss's  web page that says anything about the conquest 1" scopes not being able to handle recoil. in fact the conquest zinger says that they are made to hand the any abuse from recoil or elements you can throw at them.

It's somewhat confusing since Zeiss states that this particular model 3.4-10x44 is popular with hunters going to Alaska. Although many wil bring their trusty old 30 06, I bet a bunch more will show up with a 300 Win Mag and more. I don't get it.

Limited use on the high recoiling weapons. The 300 WSM recoils a little less than a belted magnum.I have a Zeiss Conquest on a 300 Weatherby mag and so far have 100 rounds on that scope.I have gone through a Leupold VXII and a Nikon Monarch. Both of those scopes lasted around 100 shots before they went.Customer service said that normal use that the scopes were to perform above a few thousand rounds but heavier recoil causes further wear. Both scopes could not hold zero and dust particles were inside.

pyro,
To tell you the truth I couldn't find it either but I've read on this forum (Rancid Coolaid) that Zeiss does state that warning.

i saw what rancid wrote, and while i wont discredit him, because he knows his stuff i will say that until it happens to me or you, i say go for it.you have a better chance of something happening to it on an air plane than you do while shooting an animal. the alaska thing may worry me a little, any time your dealing with dangerous game, you wanna know that your gear will work every time

This is what I found on the Zeiss website:

"The robust, one-piece tube bodies of Conquest riflescopes are built to stand up to the most abusive recoil and demanding terrains. Designed to meet the needs of every hunting style and scenario, Conquest scopes excel in whatever situation presents itself. Available with a variety of reticles, including RAPID-Z®, Conquest scopes feature Zeiss MC coating for enhanced light transmission, anodized finishes, and are waterproof, dust proof, and nitrogen filled to prevent fogging. "

When I sent my Conquest back, after it lost point of impact, they didn't ask what gun I had it on...I told them it was going on my elk rifle, which many would assume would be a mag. caliber.  They sent me a new one, no questions asked.

They state that the Rapid-Z 800 reticle is calibrated for magnum calibers. I don't see why they would do that if you weren't supposed to put them on mags.

I put a Conquest 4.5-14x44 on my Sako 270WSM and am still not decided.  I only fired 20rounds for the initial sight-in/load development.  The last 9 shots were 3 groups of 3shots.  The groups were nice and small but they were shifting point of impact a little.  Meaning I had 1/2" to 3/4" groups but the groups themselves would move around maybe 3/4" to 1".  That said the rifle is not proven and the Optilock rings are not proven.  It'll take more bench time to figure it out but I'm not 100% sure the scope is OK on that rifle.

The only time I've ever had that happen before it was a bad scope.
