considering a conquest 4.5-14 or 6.5-20 for my 270 to replace my 4-12 swaro.   love the swaro but need a bit more magnification. does the glass at least come close in comparison to the swaro?

I would keep your Z3. Better glass trumps magnification every time.

Not in any sense trying to talk you out of a higher mag scope, just looking to get you to ensure you've evaluated the trade space.  You may find that higher mag gives you less than what you already have, unless you are willing to jump way up in price.  I really like Conquest scopes.  But... if I already had a Swarovski Z3 4-12, I would not pay the price for a higher mag Conquest.  To me there would be no value.

i dont know for some reason i always crank that thing up to 12x when im hunting in open areas.   i probably dont need more mag but one thing about the z3 is i think the eye relief is pretty short

So you want to go to a scope with shorter eye relief? The Conquest 4.5-14 eye relief is less than your Z3. And the 6.5-20 Conquest is essentially the same at .04 less than the Z3.

If you are staying with a hunting type scope this is what you probably need to consider:
Swarovski 5-25x52 Z5 Riflescope Swarovski 5-25x52 Z5 Riflescope
Stock # - SWA59884
  • Matte
  • 4W
  • 1"
  • Ballistic Turret
  • Side Focus
$1,699.00

The new BRH reticle (that is Swaro's ballistic holdover reticle) is heavier than their old BRX. With that glass quality, I doubt it would be a problem.
