There is a drastic price difference between the 3-9x40 and the 3.5-10x44 ZEISS CONQUEST. The 40mm will probably be all I would ever need in terms of magnification but I am wondering if the 44mm is much brighter than the 40mm to justify the extra price. Also, Doex anyone know if the 44mm will require higher rings than the 40mm on a REMINGTON 700? I see a lot of 44mm go for about the same price on ebay for about the same as the 40mm new so that is why I am considering it.

I have the 3-9x40 and the 4.5-14x44.  The 44 does not require higher rings, or it didn't on my rifles (Tikkas with thin barrels, not bull barrels.)

There is little difference between the 3-9 and the 3.5-10; however, there is significant difference between those 2 and the 4.5-14.  Unless the scope is going on a <200 yard gun (meaning no shots every over 200 yards), I'd bite the bullet and get the 4.5-14x44 with adjustable parallex.

No matter which you get, Zeiss will install target turrets for $50 each turret - I do just my elevation turret then fit it witha BDC.  Zeiss is one of very few makers that offer this service (that I know of.)

They make good gear.  Buy your scope off the Smaple List and you still get a lifetime warrantted scope and you save a few $$ in the process.

I mounted a 4.5-14x44 Conquest on a 25-06 Sendero (heavy barrel) with standard Leupold rings and had no issues.
