Is there a benefit with going to 50mm on a 3-9 over sthe standard 40mm.  Will it give me any more light? It looks like the 3-9X40 conquest is HARD to beat price wise.  I was wondering if there was anything to gain by stepping up to the 50mm. Thanks guys

You gain exit pupil size and low light performance.  Not much difference in daylight.

+1 with above. If you like the 50 and your budget will allow it, I say go for it! If not, I'd get the 40 and never look back!

$200 less for the 40mm. And lower mounting capability.
No brainer for me. But I like low scopes and I'm kind or a cheap bastard.

I have the 3-9x50 and mainly use it at night.  It has performed very well and is shorter in length than the 40mm version which is one reason I purchased it.  If I didn't find the 50mm for almost the same price as the 40mm, I would have purchased the 40mm no questions asked.  $200 difference is not worth it in my opinion unless you need to use higher magnification at night.

I agree with WYcoyote, I like lower mounted scopes, they tend to allow me to get a better cheeck weld on the comb of the stock.

IMHO, they look better and some of the larger objective scopes really affect the balance of a rifle, especially if it's a lighter weight "mountain rifle" or something of the sort.

currently own 3x9-50 and had a few of the 3x9-40 's save your money. the 40mm is a great deal ..imo  the 50mm works well at night.

Nice Volquartsen .22 there, Mr. Coyote!

I have one too, same receiver, but with different handle (their VX-5000).  Shoots great!

A 1" tube with a 50mm bell just looks weird to me.  Bucky  I would pick the 40mm.
