How does the Zeiss Conquest compare with Leupold's new VX3 lineup. 1.7-6x32 & 2.5-8x36?
Is it true that the Conquest range in clearly better optically? How about build & toughness?

I cant tell about this specific magnification (2.5-8) but I can tell you the Conquest is a grrrreat scope. Well built but its strenghts are its glass. Very very good.

I compared side by side in Large Fish Named Competitor's Store a VX-III and a Conquest.  To MY eyes the Conquest was the hands down winner.  I understand that the VX-3 is supoosed to be an upgrade over the VX-III.  I have no experience with the VX-3.  I do however own and love a 2.5x8x32 Conquest.  If you're looking for a cope for a compact or light rifle, I can highly recommend it.  The only drawback to the Conquest, and it is a very minor one, is the oversized ocular end of the scope that can cause mounting issues.  The clarity and brightness were amazing for a 32mm scope.  I do also own, like, and still use an older Vari-X III 2.5x8x36.  It is still to me a very good scope.  The Conquest is just better in my opinion.

I bought one recently and put it on an older steyr .6mm that I have. I like it and it's pretty good in low light for the size but is clearly not as bright at last light as some of my other scopes (which are bigger):

6500 2.5-16x42
Conquest 3.5-10x44
Conquest 4.5-14x44
Weaver Classic Extreme 2.5-10x50

But it would work for 90% of the hunting I have done over the years !

Little heavy.  I like Conquests but in that magnification range I want a light scope.

I think the VX3 and the Conquest are equal in most ways. Leupold is 2.5 ounces lighter. Conquest has a slighly wider power spread, 2.5 to8.0 vs. 2.6to7.8. The Conquest has a slighly larger field of view at 2.5 than the VX3 at 2.5. The Conquest has .5 inch more eye relief than the vx3 with both scopes set on 2.5 power. How Zeiss gets more f.o.v. and more eye relief is a mystery but it is true. I tested the two scopes carefully for f.o.v. and eye relief. For an all around hunting scope the Conquest 2.5-8x32 is great.

cbm. you own a Conquest 3.5-10x44 and a 6500 2.5-16x42. I am very interested in both of these scopes. Do you like one better than the other? Could you compare them. I would sure be grateful for this. I have no way to look at these scopes other than to buy one. I did buy a used Conquest 4.5-14x44 and I am very impressed with this scope. Thanks.
