I had a listing on meopta vs conquest. Being new here I have read about scopes that I have never considered. I'm looking for a midrange price scope not costing in the 1500.00 range. From what i've read there are several good scopes in the mid price range for shooting in very low light situations. I've read about Kahles, Conquest, Meopta, IOR,  Busnell Elite 4200 and several others. I just want to step up from the vari x III's I have been using. Any infomation or opions that will help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

I do like the varible power scopes for deer hunting. I hunt in different situations from shooting lanes in woods to long range shots in open fields.

Right now i'm shooting thr 4.5-14x50 vxIII on most guns. Trying to step up from that. Looking in the 500.00 - 900.00 range.

Try IOR 4.5-14x50.  Another good choice is Meopta Meostar.  A couple of models there should be up your alley: 4-12x40 and 4-16x44.

These have substantially better optics than your vxIII.  However, both Meopta and IOR are fairly substantial 30mm tubed scopes.  Nice thing is that they are available with a very versatile #4 reticle.

If you prefer to stay with a 1" tube, Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 is a very nice scope with glass similar in quality to IOR and Meopta (I think IOR and Meopta Meostar are a little better, but it is a close call).

If you decide that you want to save some money, I can heartily recommend Bushnell Elite 4200.  The glass is between vx-III and Conquest, but the price tag is very reasonable.

I can speak to the quality of Kahles since I have one and it is the favorite scope in my battery. The image is crystal clear and bright, the adjustments are repeatable, it is durable and it just looks good on my M700. You can get them in your price range, too. Also look at the Samplelist here at SWFA.
I have noticed that IOR and Meopta are advertising in just about every magazine I get these days. They are even in the new issue of Predator Extreme. This has my interest because these companies are taking American hunters seriously.
ILya really likes these European scope manufacturers and that is a good endorsement. The prices are very competitive, too.

This is very good advice.  I honestly believe the best scope in the world right now "dollar for dollar" is the Kahles CL.  You'll be hard pressed to find a better scope for the money.  For your intended applications, there are a couple of CL models that will work very well.

Best of luck & let us know what you decide!

I am trying to stay with the 30mm tube. What is the difference in the CL and the C models.

Same glass,C has a 30MM tube and no side focus and is a FFP scope. CS has Muli-Zero,CBX has illuminated special reticles in the first focal Plane(FFP). CSX has special Illuminated reticles in the second focal plane(SFP).

CL is the only 1" Kahles scope currently that has a side focus and a Multi-Zero option. AMV coated glass on all of the above including the new 1" KX that has no side focus or multi-zero option but does provide a couple of rangefinding reticle options on a budget.

The IOR 3x to 18x is a great scope with a good range for any type of hunting and enough power for some target work at distance just under 1500.  Hard to chose just one

for lowlight, i would go meostar in 50, or 56mm OR wait on the kahles KX -

OR get a 50 or 56 Monarch UCC or gold. those are on sale www.swfa.com

any of the above mentioned would be a great buy for lowlight performance.

for under 700 bucks, the meostar is really really good.

Kahles KX is available now. I do not know if SWFA has them in stock but they can get them any time now.

sweet. same coatings and glass as the C and CL. better price.

win / win.

THAT's the best scope value now. IMO, of course.

I have decided to go with the Kahles KX  or the Meopta scope. The kahles KX has the 4-12x50 with a 1 " tube. The meopta has 3-12x56 with a 30mm tube. Will one be better than the other in low light situations and clarity? I didn't know because of objective and tube size difference. Which reticle would be best for low light deer hunting situations. Do they make the KX with illumination feature? Are they in the same general price range?   Thanks for the help.

The KX with the #4,  this scope has the best low light glass , it is not available with a IR. The 3-12x56 Meostar does have a IR version but it is expensive.

i prefer the 56mm meostar, and the 3 power it has as well.  I think this will give you a slight edge for up close shots.

and the extra 6mm on the objective will give you a little lowlight edge.

but you can't go wrong w/ either, really. good choices. #4 reticle is great.
