I came across a listing for Bushnell binoculars 10-180 X 100

Zoom 10x - 180 x
Objective Diameter 100 x

Effective diameter of objective 60 mm

What is the difference between the two descriptions for the objective?

Thanks you from a Newbie

Adrian

I don't know the answer, but I would strongly suggest staying away from variable binoculars.  It is very difficult and expensive to make a pair of variable powered binos.  I tried a couple pair of variable Nikon binos years back and they both sucked badly.  As you turned up the mag the barrels got out of focus from each other.  They were really only usable on the lowest mag.

Thank you for the advice.  I am still confused by the different objective descriptions.
If this were an off-name brand I would disregard it, but Bushnell makes a lot of optics.
I tried to contact Bushnell directly but couldn't get through.

What is the difference in the objective description?

I found some pics of them.  They appear to have 50ishmm objective lenses.  They are probably adding the two objectives together to make them sound better and get the 100.

There is a whole lot of smoke and mirrors going on with them.  Stay away.  I dare bet they are not made by Bushnell, but by some knock off company using the bushnell name.  At 180x, they physically could not put enough light through the lenses to be usable.  .27mm exit pupil, that would just not be a large enough band of light to be usable.

Seriously don't spend any money on them.  They are not sold by reputable dealers, but by those cheap online companies that just sell junk.

It is very difficult to translate "garbage" foreign advertising.

As was already stated...
By looking at the picture of the advertised binocular it is very obvious that the objective size cannot be 100mm, as we know it.

The magnification range also defies reasoning, for such a smallish binocular, or any binocular for that matter.  Thumbs Down

Don't waste your time trying to understand "junk" arithmetic/advertising, it befuddles all of us. Loco

Fixed  magnification is the only way to go, in a GIANT straight-through binocular.

The only 'quality' exception that I can think of would be the Docter Aspectem 80mm, with  z o o m  eyepieces. (20x-50x)

50 mm is TWO INCHES.  Bigger than that is BIG.
