What is a good compact scope for a Ruger .44 magnum carbine? I would like fixed 4 power. I don't really wont to spend alot. I am using this rifle in thickets, so 4 power is high enough. Any suggestions?

Burris 4x20 and Sightron 4x32 would be at the top of my list.
Leupold makes a decent 4x33 scope but I think Burris and Sightron are
better. If you want to spend less money, Weaver K4 is similar to
Leupold, to my eyes. I would not recommend going with anything
cheaper than the K4 as the quality really seems to drop in that price
range.
Nikon makes two 4x40 scopes: Buckmaster and Monarch. I do not have any personal experience with them, but I would guess that 4x Monarch is comparable to Burris and Sightron and Buckmaster is more like the Weaver. I'd go with Burris as it is a bit cheaper than Sightron or Nikon Monarch and smaller/lighter than anything else. Ilya |

possum-I have owned a ruger 44 mag carbine for over 20 years and i put a 4 power wide angle scope on it,the day i purchased it and it works great. If you use it for deer hunting like i did,you will shoot alot less than 100 yards. It has more than enough powerr to do what you want.

I would not hesitate to buy the Weaver K4. I have been nothing but pleased with the 3 or 4 K4's that I have used over the past 10 or so years. I have used them on a couple Ruger 10/22's, a Marlin .22 bolt action, and an Enfield .308. I think you will be pleased with a K4. Weaver's price is deceptive considering their quality and tradition.
