Ok guys, I have recently put a 450 bushmaster on layaway and am wondering what optics would go well with what I will be doing with it. The majority of my shots will be in the 50 to 125 yard range, strictly hog hunting with it mainly at night. I have been told by friends that I should go with a red dot with shots that close, but the only red dot I have ever tried at night was a Vortex and it failed miserably the dot was way to bright on it's lowest setting. What has worked well for you guys here, and what would stand up to the recoil this thing will have? My budget is between $500-$600.

Do you want any (or rather how much magnification) is the question.

Doesn't really matter, the red dot ideah sounds good, if their is one out their that can be seen through at night. I use lights and also hunt under moonlight so it would need good light gathering qualities. I can also use a magnifier with it if I decide to shoot at longer than 75 yards, wouldn't need more than 2x I'm sure. |

Trijicon accupoint with 1-4 all the way. Several hog slayers on here rave about them and from my little experience with a trijicon, it can't be beat at night.

If you go with a red dot, I prefer the Aimpoints. Liked them better than the Eotech personally but both make a great product. Aimpoint makes a tripler you can put with their red dots.

I have the aimpoints and some trijicon compact acogs and I much prefer the compact acogs. They make one wiht a red crosshair in 1.5x 2x or 3x the lower the power the more eye relief you get and the wider the field of view. For what you are talking about I think you would like the 1.5x. I would mount it using a La Rue RCO mount.
