Zen ray ED2 8x43 vs vortex viper 8.5x50. I know the
Viper will be larger and heavier somewhat. How do
They compare otherwise? Viper marked down a lot.
I don't have access to put hands on either. Any thoughts?

I would say they are very close optically,  some will say better, some will say worse.

I would agree that they are optically similar, but the Vortex easily wins on fit and finish.

I think the Zen ED2 more closely competes with the Vortex Razor, which is a step up from the Viper optically.  Razor and ED2 have better CA control and wider FOV than Viper.  I agree that Viper has better fit and finish, though.  I also like Viper's focus knob feel much better.  It's buttery smooth.

I should read a little closer.  Embarrased

I agree with Ted, the Zens more closely compare with the Razor line optically, not the Viper.

The Viper isn't really that far behind, with excellent resolution, but a fairly shallow depth of field.

The 8.5X50 Viper has a pretty narrow field of view (305 ft/1000 yards).  The 8X43 Zens have anything but a narrow field of view (426 ft/1000 yards).

The ED2s win vs. the Viper.
