Just built an AR in 6.8 and am planning on mounting a weaver V3 on it. What is the height i need to achieve to clear the FSB for shooting at 1x. And suggestions for mounts/ risers to achieve this that wont cost more than the scope would be appreciated as well.

Welcome to The OT.
Are you concerned with "seeing" your front sight @ 1x?

yes i do not want to see it at all. I have no interest in Co-Witness for this rifle. so IIRC wouldnt I need ~ 2-2.5" of height off the flat top?

argh also I dont care one way or the other about QD as a matter of fact QD goes against too many years of 550 cording the hell out of everything to make sure it doesnt disconnect in the field lol.

Get a fold down front sight. http://yankeehill.bizland.com/store/product413.html or a no sight front gas block. http://www.yhm.net/store/gas_blocks.html
If you mount your scope over the height of the sight it is going to raise all kinds of havok. You will not be able to get a proper cheek weld on the stock. Mean all consistency will be lost, meaning accuracy will go down. Also it could make your scope not have enough elevation to get a proper zero. |
