I was wondering what is the best way to clean the lenses on my 4200 Elite.  I don't want to damage the rainguard coating.  Thanks in advance!

use optics brush (best with air burst) to brush away loose debris.  Use good optics cleaning paper ( or pre-wetted - like Zeiss) papers to gently clean away anything the brush missed.  Be gentle!  You can take the coatings off if you rub too hard.

Never use breath to clean as your breath has particulates that can scratch the coatings.
Never wipe with a cloth or lens paper prior to brushing away dirt and particulates first - again, scratch coatings.
Never clean round and round and round in circles on the lens surface.
Never clean with a shirt tail or sleeve.
Best to keep lenses covered till needed - like with Butler Creeks.  They make clear plastic ones for if you need to take a quick shot and don't have time to flip a few caps.

Get some compressed air.  You can find it at computer stores.  Use it to blow off the dirt and dust.  Then get a zeiss cleaning kit and follow the directions.  You shouldn't have a problem with scratching it.  That is the method and products I use on my scope, and I have never had a problem.

If needed in the field, I'd use a LensPen. Otherwise, the above methods are good. Whatever you decide to use, make sure it is safe for use on multi-coated optics, such as cleaners found in local camera type stores. SWFA sells the Zeiss lens wipes which work great in my opinion. Nikon markets a very similar product (if not exactly the same) as well.

I'll agree with all of the above, but add that with a lens that may have gotten quite dirty, after blowing and brushing I also at times use a clean cotton swab, dabbed in filtered water to get any other particulate still left on the lens before using a clean lens cloth to polish.
