Now that I'm finally learning about good optics, I'm finding out how much I dislike the ones I have. I'm looking to replace a set of bino's that will be used primarily for hunting deer, turkey and waterfowl.

Here's what I'm looking at so far:

Sightron 8x42 SIII Binocular Sightron 8x42 SIII Binocular
Stock # - SIII842RM
  • Rubber Armored
  • Waterproof
$311.95
Leupold 8x42 BX-3 Mojave Binocular Leupold 8x42 BX-3 Mojave Binocular
Stock # - LEU111766
  • Black
  • Roof Prism
$379.95
Nikon 8x42 Monarch ATB Binocular Nikon 8x42 Monarch ATB Binocular
Stock # - NIK7294
  • DISCONTINUED was $279.95
  • Roof Prism
  • Phase Coated
  • Dielectric High-Reflective Multilayer Prism Coating
$249.95
Pentax 8x32 DCF SP Binocular Pentax 8x32 DCF SP Binocular
Stock # - 62619
  • Rubber Armored
  • Superior Performance
  • Roof Prism
  • Waterproof
  • Phase Coated
  • Nitrogen Filled
  • Comes with Case
$449.95
Any other suggestions, I don't know much about bino's yet. I would be willing to spend probably up to about $450.  The Sighton I would have easy access too, the Mojave my brother uses and the ATB a friend uses. I threw the Pentax in the mix because it seemed to fit.

I should add that I'm currently using a pair of Sightron SII 8x25's.  Weight and FOV are definite considerations, also it seems maybe I should be looking at some Zen Ray's and Vortex models.
Thanks

I have these, and they are a very good bino! I have not compared them to much anything else, because nobody around here has more than blister pack Bushy's. But there are some great reviews on this site and on optics thoughts, which is a review site set up by forum member ILya Koshkin.

I couldn't find much that was better than the 8x42 Vortex Diamondbacks. Took an enormous jump in price to see any difference to me. But I don't see half the stuff people complain about...

Really thinking hard about the Zen Ray's, but I have $100's sitting at the local dealer so I can basically get the SIII's for about $230 out the door.

Any thoughts on the Sightron?

Most of the quality 10x binoculars have a wider field of view than the 8x S3s.  That would eliminate them for me.

I think the 8X42 ED2s would fit the bill well.  I also think your friend and brother would be pretty jealous, once they got a good look at them.

If you have a few C-notes in credit, gift cards or whatever at a local source and if SIghtron is an option there,  get the SIghtron SIII LR it will kick the plain SIII where the sun don't shine.

I think I will stay with the ED2' s, the SIII LR 8x42 are $516. So I can get the ED's and still be $100 ahead even if I burn my credit. There isn't a time limit on the credit, so I think I might order a new scope for my .243 this summer.

O.k- now that I ordered my ED2's, can anyone tell me about the warranty? Or about SWFA backing them.

Thanks for the help. This wasn't nearly as hard as picking out a scope.

The warranty is lifetime from the manufacturer.  I have had nothing but great customer service from Zen Ray.

Got the ED2's today, and gotta say your recommendations didn't disappoint. I really like the increased FOV over the 8x25's. The are considerably brighter too. Can't wait to use them turkey hunting in a few weeks. It will be October before they are side by side with the Mojave's and ATB's, so I'll have to wait to see how that goes. Shouldn't be a problem though.

Thanks again.

Nice choice with the bino's.  Post a picture of the turkey when you get one.
