An unnamed competitor, (center- direction- nation "just about everything") has blemished bullets on sale for up to $50 off per box and while not marked as such, they are Hornady Interbonds, or Match bullets and they are fine and half price-
I just ordered a bunch more because my last order of 400 didn't have a single problem... for 1/2 price who cares. |

I have used a bunch of those as well, been very happy with them. IIRC Chris told us a few years back it is okay to mention Midway for reloading and shooting stuff.

My order just came in and I was surprised to find that the bullets had a cannelure. Not knowing that Hornady made 150 gr 30 cal Interbonds w/c, initially thought that a mistake had been made and that these were SSTs rather than "Interbond Blems" as advertised. I cut one in half and it is indeed an Interbond.
Re- reading the ad, it says "Some of these bonded bullets may have a cannelure or may not, depending if an OEM contract specified a cannelure." Just had to go ahead and open all boxes and they're all the same. Doesn't matter, Interbonds have proven themselves to me already and I'll take 1/2 price w/cannelure. Appearance is fine, but random weights at 149.4/5 gr, so that's probably why they're blems- didn't make weight. They should be fantastic in autoloaders. |

I weigh mine anyway before loading and group them in .1 grain bins. It's probably overkill, but while working up a load I want as few variables as possible.
What do you guys keep your "bin" tolerance at for separating by weight?

djp0623,
That's the nature of hand loading and have been known to do that. My beam scale is very accurate (in it's little windscreen box mounted on granite), but it's slow, so just ordered a new .02 gr. precision digital scale. Will it help my groups/scores? Highly doubtful, but it's such a neat gadget! After scale recalibration, majority of these bullets are 150gr. +/- .05gr- very good. So far the +/- .1gr are ~ 10% of samples, but overall consistent with no appearance issues noted. I haven't loaded 150gr .30cal for bolt rifles in years, instead loading longer bullets with better BC. These 150s are really all that's needed for hunting anything in Oklahoma at distances I'd likely shoot. My pet '06 load w/200 gr Accubond retains about the same energy @ 600 yds as a .30-30 150gr @ 50 yds, while these 150s @400 yds would hit as hard; just fine without the added sound and fury. |

I ordered 100 of the 165gr. I'm hoping that I can use the same load as my 168gr Amax and get decent results.
I really don't want to work up a separate load because it takes about 30 rnds to do so and the range isn't close to the house, but it is fun. I find reloading very therapeutic. I'll probably end up working it up. I'm too anal not to....... |

There's almost no end to the things one can try in the one- hole search.
Bullet sorting by bearing surface length, oal, boat tail form/length, base flatness/square, etc. All told, brass sorting has a greater effect (and there are just as many factors in sorting brass) and all of this is almost superfluous for hunting ammo, but the quest for perfection can become an irresistible siren song. |
