Genesis 1:28 (New International Version)
28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
I believe that God gave the earth to use. He gave us Brains to figure things out. Stem cells are found in adults as well and some believe that they hold more promise than embryonic ones. Jesus healed people, made the lame to walk and healed the servant of the high priest's ear that was cut off. Not for a moment saying that we are God, but I believe he is revealing his creation to us. Using components from pig bladders is one way of using or subduing creation. Bring people back to life.... well Jesus did it with Lazarus. Once again, we are not God, but if he has planned a way that we could use his creation to do this, who is to say. I don't believe we should kill the unborn to heal the living.
Look at all the things that we have learned. Penicillin, vaccinations, even vitamins. We didn't create them, through trial and error, we learned about them.
I agree with SD on this. Not that I don't respect others opinions, which is the beauty of living in our country. We're allowed to not only have those opinions, but actually voice them without being shot dead.
I think in the grand scheme of things we haven't begun to scratch the surface of our abilities or come close to 'god' like powers. Lets not fool ourselves... We haven't even discovered everything there is to know about our own planet and it's inhabitants.. Last time I checked, God created the heavens and earth... inclusive of that is the universe. There is an awful lot out there that we don't have a clue about.. Heck there's a lot out there the we don't even know exist to even know there's a lot out there about!!
In truth.. we're not even in kindergarden class at the school of 'god'... Only he and he alone knows when we have gone to far and it's time to pull the plug on this petri dish experiment he calls humans.
Of course, I could be naive and the end could be soon.. But I prefer to be a little more optimistic. Not try to predict gods plans. Study the facts and know that we really don't know a whole lot about much in comparison to the size of our universe. When somebody starts saying we can create a universe etc..... I might get a little more concerned.
We're still squabbling about Global Warming... OK, so the planet is warming a smidget.. How do we know this isn't just the normal ebbs and flows of a 500 or 1000 or more year weather pattern.. WE DON'T... WE'RE GUESSING... Based on soil and ice samples and a 100 years of weather records ( RELIABLE DATA RECORDS ) not scribbling on cave walls.
Sorry, but the advancement of our knowledge and abilities is the natural progression of man kind. The real test (in my humble opinion) is WHAT WE DO with the knowledge... God gave us the ability (and expectation) to learn and advance... What he didn't do was give us the ability to only do good with it... Thats what we are being judged on...
Growing body parts, saving lives, flying to planets.... I think that is just the normal progression of the big plan...... Predicting the end of our existence based on the Bible..... thats a tough one to tackle.... Me personally, I think I'll leave that up to God and just try to lead the life he wants.
Why I have this opinion is the years I have spent in a high tech field. The privilege of working with engineers and scientist.. Incredibly bright people... Many are devout Christians and I will say this first hand. They are even stronger in their beliefs because of the work they do... They see everyday how little we understand about our existence and how much that re-inforces their faith in God. It takes a power beyond our ability to understand how to create our world and our universe.
Just my humble opinion.
