i bought this scope but my walmart 60$ 20x60 60 beats it in clarity, brightness and sharpness. Will changing the eye piece helpt it? anyone have this scope themselves? from reading online i read that changing it to a different eye piece will make it like night and day. anyone?

I have a c-90 and love the clarity. The zoom eyepiece that comes with them is crap You will be happier with a fixed 25mm or 32mm They run just under $40. The clarity way more than makes up for the lower magnification. Most Camera stores that sell Telescopes will have what you want.
Good Luck

Hi 3ten. Im returning the c70. It dims out as you zoom all the way. I'm really considering buying the c90. Can you tell me what's the magnification out the box? And can you really see Jupiter like the web sites picture shows or is that another eye piece they got on? I'm a total noob. Also I saw the eye piece you are talking about. Plossl I think its called. Does that go to 75x like the stock price? And will it actually sharpen the image? I swear my 60 dollar summon 20x60x60 scope is soon much sharper and brighter. Why? I thought a 110$ c70 would be better. Is the stock eye price that bad?

Yes the stock Eyepiece is that bad. You just can,t take that small of objective and get enough light to the eye. About 30X is good as it goes on a C-70. The C-90 will do 50X good but over that the image drops off fast.. To see Jupiter very well you need to go to a CPC-11 astronomical telescope or more. Then use digital images to blow it up more. The photo on the Celestron website is not from a spotting scope. Not likely any amature astronomical telescope either.

Oh I see. Damn! I liked the compact factor a lot but the dreaded fog at Max zoom and blurry edges at over 30x just kills it for me. thxs for the info. I also noticed the view diameter is very small compared to my 20x60 60 tasco scope. Is that the eye piece as well?

It is mostly cheap lens. Front to back. You should be able to see the moon clearly on your lower power. The lowest setting is where you will see the best. Higher magnification will mostly magnify the defects of the glass. You should be able to make out 4-6 moons around Jupiter. The rings of Saturn will be visible but not with any definition of the layers. If you have the erector your scope will do well for bird watching. If you want to do serious birding be prepared to shell out 1-3 grand. Good glass is addictive. If you want to watch the stars get astronomical scopes or binoculars. Thats what they are designed to do.
