Hello All.

Greetings from across the pond.

Case cleaning media. Walnut hull or corn cob ? 50/50 mix ?

Any one tried cat litter ? With a positive result ?

Nelly

I thought that law prohibited firearms in England?

Walnut hull works excellent for me.

Try nickel-plated cases.  You can wipe them off with a rough paper towel.

On page 48 in "Modern Reloading - Second Edition",  Richard Lee notes two possible problems with case tumblers or vibrators.  First, you have to be sure the media is completely out of the cases.  Otherwise, you may have pressure problems.  Second, he mentions one gentleman who wound up with elevated lead in his system.  This was traced to the sifter used to separate the media from the cases.

Not something you can't handle.  Just something you might want to know about.

Walnut hulls for me too...When I still actually used a tumbler.

I got tired of digging out media from the primer pockets....

Anymore, I just clean the necks with #0000 steel wool and wipe down the nasty ones with the same.

I clean inside the case necks using the same #0000 steel wool wrapped around an old bore brush.

Cleans 'em up nice and shiney.

That has to become very aggravating after about 50 cases

Not really.

I'm rather anal about case prep and probably only load 50-60 rounds at a time any way.

Nelly's question:  "Any one tried cat litter ? With a positive result ?"

No.  We prefer flush toilets.

Yep you're right that is funny. Ask a stupid question.

Thanks for the answers everyone.

Anthony.Only pistols are prohibited in England.

Rifles and Shotguns,no problem.

Pistols,no no no.

Not even for our Olympic team to train on their home turf with their target .22's

Bureaucracy gone mad.

At least they let you get long guns,

Otherwise that sucks, really sucks

IMO, if someone can't aquire a gun they will just simply find another weapon that is capeable of lethal force, and trust me there are a lot...

or they will aquire something illegal...

And even if you can buy a weapon, I think that having to wait several days, having to register their gun so that it can be traced back to you, and having to pay more than you would if you bought it in the back of a white van is all enough to keep just about every criminal from even thinking of stopping at a gun shop.

Much more difficult over here.

You need to be a member of a Home Office (Government) approved club. To become a member you must make 13 visits and have attended for a minimum of 3 months. If granted membership only then can you apply to the police for a firearms certificate.

You must have a valid reason for each firearm you wish to own.

You must show adequate security of your home and have a gunsafe installed.

Then they MAY grant you a certificate.

The whole thing takes about 2 months.

Each firearm must be used regularly (not much problem there) or the right to possess it is withdrawn.

There is a "joke" that if it is Friday night and it's raining it is easier to get a gun than a taxi cab.

And the selection process for Range Officer has very high standards. Not all applicants make the grade.

These three did.
