For those of you who check out this post thank you. I am new to this forum and recently aquired a few binoculars. I don't really know much about them and I was hoping you could help. I was hoping to get an idea on the era and value of these binoculars. The 1st pair is a Carl Zeiss Jena 7X50 Binoctar bioculars that are also inscribed on them to A.T. Emerson Commander U.S.N. The 2nd pair are from Bausch and Lomb otical from Rochester N.Y. These are Zephyr 9x35 Binoculars. If you have any info that would be useful please let me know.

                                                    Thank you.

Hi Titus,

Your  Zephyr was the top of the line glass for B&L. It sold for about $200 new in the early 60s and has an excellent reputation. It will probably be well bid if it is in good shape.
The Zeiss Binoctar.was the standard  Zeiss military glass. Absent any government markings, it is likely that this was a commercially purchased item for Cdr Emerson.
If you wish, you can determine the date of manufacture from the serial number here:  http://www.europa.com/~telscope/binotele.htm
This model was built from about 1920 to 1970 and was a well deserved best seller. Unfortunately, that also reduces the scarcity value. However, it might have appeal for a collector of military optics.
