hi all,, long time listener, first time caller,,,,,,,,

well,, I know this isn't the rimfire section.I need centerfire scope.  Rimfire scopes are of no real interest to me for this project. I need scope for integrally silenced 10-22.  I have the ruger on a thumbhole stock with a "kid" 2-stage trigger worth more then the original 10-22,,so no need to make fun of spending too much money for rifle I'm putting it on,,,,,I know.

Here is the problem,, I have eotech mounted on pic rail on it now. I also want to set up a scope for quick change on the same rail.  I don't think I'll buy a leupold,,,as I just read  THAT thread

I want a couple of things,,, side focus, approx 4-16x50, would like a lit reticle but don't really want mil dot..more like red dot in center to light up with plex crosshairs.  I need good glass. I have a 4200 elite that I really like so far, but the 50mm with side focus only goes down to 25yd on the AO. My 4200 with front AO,,goes down to 10yd. Why?

I know, you guys think rifle scopes are too big for rimfire,,,read that thread too,,,,,, With the 4200 setting on it just to look at it,,, the 5" sunshape is .500 shorter then the barrel!!!!    I LIKE.

I dislike the choices out there for rimfire scopes. I must have lowlight capabilities for the tree rats in the morning and eve's,,and power to play at 100yd,,and more power to ,,,just look at stuff.  I want the side focus to have yardage that is sort of accurate, as I use it for rangefinder after focusing.

Is this too much to want?  Why are there no high end rimfire scopes?  40mm is as low as I want to go,,really want 50.

What is out there I don't know about?   $500-600?

wow,, thats close,,just missing side focus.  How do these Burris sig select compare to my 4200 glass? I need lowlight glass. That 4200 is pretty good.

Hmmm, went back again,,does not state how close it will focus.

I don't know what that little knob is underneath. The one in back would be the illum reticle.

I think what you are seeing ,Pyro, is the Posi-lock thingy on the lower left quadrant of the turret. The dial on the objective bell is the illumination knob and the other knobs on the turret are of course W&E.

the underneath one is either posi lock or side focus.

What does "the Posi-lock thingy" do?

Want, want, want,,,need does not enter this   I don't even "need" this rifle as I have others that outshoot it hands down. It just makes me mad that the big rifles get all the cool stuff.  I shoot this rifle ALOT!  I want the  convenience of side focus. All my other AO's are in front and sometimes, depending on my position,,it's hard to reach, adjust, and stay on target at the same time. While my 4200 is not as stiff as my leupolds,,it's still hard to reach and turn.

Zeiss and Kahles have a couple of high end .22 scopes.

ok - i think i have a solution for you.

i just set up a CZ452 varmint 22LR rimfire and am completely happy w/ it.

i replaced the trigger to a crisp 1 pound pull and put a lightstream 5-20x50mm scope on it.

http://www.light-stream.co.uk/spec2.htm

this scope is DISGUSTINGLY good in my opinion.  I know you don't like mil-dot, neither do i.

but for rimfire, this scope is as precise and sharp as you can get w/ illumination. i have looked around.

it's side focus and has GREAT low profile target nobs.  the side focus is fine down to 10 yards @ 5 power.

the whole scope is wonderfully made - japanese glass, and it outperforms my 4200's, Zeiss Conquest, and nikon monarch.

it is REALLY crisp and bright.

I got this scope from a buddy, and could NOT be more happy w/ it. i know it's probably overkill w/ my 22LR, but no varmint is safe!!!!

I don't know what the current exchange rates are, but this scope should be around 700-800 bucks, U.S., i think.

SWFA may be carrying them, or could get them - call them and find out.

it's a seriously good piece of glass.

good luck.

J

jon, that is the closest I've seen so far, thanks. Wish they lit up a plex with dot.  I don't think it's over kill. Thats what I like. Why not have really nice scope on the rifle I shoot everyday, instead of on the one I shoot couple times a year?  Wish I could see thru one. Better then the 4200 interests me,,I really like my 4200. Went to website and like the general looks of it. Will go back and investigate more.

Do you like the ilum? What do they mean when the add says "Reticle:fibre optic centre illuminated mil radian pattern 11 brightness settings, which illuminiate centre only and cast light to the rest of the strada iliminating glare."

Does it only light the center dot and gradually dim as light goes out to edges of reticle? I saw a pic of reticle on web site,,,does yours have mil dots AND the fine lines thru each dot? Do the dots magnify with scope power or always stay the same size?

unfortunately not illuminated, and only 4.5-14, but side focus down to 30 yards. Just thought you might want a look.

power is ok,,,,not ilum and 30 yds are 2 strikes. Can't give anything up or it won't be "the one"

Actually, Kahles has perfect scopes, maybe, they don't tell how far down in yardage they will focus,,AND they are approx $1400. Having trouble with that price. Why are there less specs posted on the real expensive scopes? Swarsky is same way,,,, seems like for that kind of money,,everything would be listed. I did not go to website to see,,just here at SWFA

Anybody else own a lightstream?  They seem to be marketed for air rifles in the UK. I checked out some of the forums "over there" and they have just as many aurguments about "good or bad" as here. Plus they are kinda hard to decifer the jargon they use in the (english) language. I kind of caught on after reading 2 or 3 times.

The illumination is a small dot, which is at the center of the crosshairs - yes there are lines and dots.

the illumination is very NICE compared to some i have seen - you can leave it very dim in the lowest of light and it doens't
hinder your sight.  The dots stay the same size, second focal plane reticle.

it's a really nice scope.

It outperforms my 4200 and zeiss conquest. And has everything a target scope should have - oh, and i forgot to mention......

it's built like an army tank - NOT a lightweight scope - bottom line - it's a little under 700 U.S. and is worth every penny and more.

good luck - let me know if you need any more info.  Contact SWFA about it, they may be able to tell you more.

J
