I'm new to the forums. I have a pair of Steiner Firebirds....remember them? What do you think about the Cannon 10 x 30 IS...for beach vacations.....looking out hotel rooms, etc.?
Thanks for your advice.

I had a pair of the 8x. I thought they were pretty cool (and considerably cheaper than the 10x). They seemed to stabilize the image well (and my hands aren't steady), the clarity was fair/ok.
However, I prefer dark sunglasses at the beach...slightly more subtle.

My experience with the 10x30 Canons is mixed. It's hard to make an optically great 10x binocular with an objective lens in the 30mm range. The objective is just too small for the best view, except during bright midday light. I have gotten a better view out of top-notch 8x40 class "unstabilized" binoculars--especially in dim light. And really good 10x40 to 10x50 binoculars are even better, if you can hold them fairly steadily. Most people can. |
