I have the Leupold VX3 with side focus for paralax. The normal horizontal and vertical turrets can be zeroed by way of loosening three screws on each, turning it to "0" and tightning the same screws. A very small allan key came with the scope for this.
The side focus is way off though in terms of the little hash marks to indicate "something". (no numbers). There appears to be a larger screw holding the dial. The screw is in a similiar position as the three turret screws. No allan key I own fits this screw. Is it in fact a "zeroable" cap and does the screw hold the cap in place?
Any takers?

I'm way too dumb to answer that. I will say though that those side parallax adjustments typically do not match up with the printed #'s on the side. Whacko

I looked at the Leupold site and the best I could find was on a FAQ search. The answer was pretty close to BNB's answer, they don't always match up.
"My parallax setting is off.
The adjustable objective of a scope has yardage markings on it only for reference. Often (always) these markings will be off to one degree or another. During the final assembly process of a scope a collimator is used to set the objective focus of the scope. On an adjustable scope the adjustment is turned to the infinity mark and the scope is adjusted to focus for 500+ yards. The adjustable objective is then turned to the nearest setting to make sure that it will AT LEAST focus down to the short focus specification (usually it will focus closer than the specification allows). The more short focus adjustment the scope has the further it will be off from the marking on the dial. This is to the scope owner's benefit. You are getting more short focus ability. " http://www2.leupold.com/resources/MyInfo81/Answerbook/findanswers.aspx
The owner manual download had no answer on the turret screw, either.

I would thing that if there is only a single set screw for the side focus then more than likely the adjustment shaft is a D shaft (shaft with flat spot)  if that is the case I would say no it is not adjustable.

No not that I know of.  I own a few VXIII's with side focus and they don't zero.  I've seen guys use a couple white dots(paint on the end of a toothpick) for reference of a couple common distances.  It would be nice if the hashmarks had numbers even if not accurate they'd serve as better reference than the skinny gold lines.

Good Idea!

Did Like the idea of adding Dots or marks to calibrate it yourself.

I also don't know if the sf is resettable but i do know lots of shooters from my place who either fine tune or readjust their sf scopes for shorter distances by carefully moving the front objective lens manually. Haven't done it myself but saw a couple done and they seem to work. Smile
